See title. Used to play Black Templars, Eldar and Tau in 3rd and 4th edition.
Mostly here to learn how to paint again and try to find good prices on stuff here.
Currently I'm planning on playing Dark Angels or a Death Guard army.
Also not really into super competitive play, more into modeling and painting than gaming.
Glad to be here! Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh I guess a bit about myself...I'm an Airborne Infantryman in the Army National Guard and I'm studying nursing.

Long story short, Dark Angels Terminator Army. Nothing else is needed, Feel no Pain was nerfed so Death Guard is not as great as it use to be.
Welcome back and glad you decided to stop running out of helicopters or repelling from them.
Please enjoy your stay!

Hey and welcome,
There are great resources for painting in the painting and modeling logs here on Dakka and a wealth of information around the web in general. Best advice i can give, even if I don't always follow it myself, is to just practice. Paint as much as you can, and if it doesn't turn out great, you can always strip the paint and try again. I would maybe grab some cheap models on eBay and just practice on them even if they are model you will use for an army. Just use them to test paint schemes or techniques or whatever.
If you are interested in Dark Angels they are rumored to be in the new starter set, along with Chaos Space Marines. The set is said to contain some terminators and tactical squad, ravenwing bikes and a captain. You can typically pick up the models separately from bits sites and eBay, so you can probably get a decent army together for $100-$200, depending on what you want to field. The Chaos stuff can also be a good intro for friends if you are trying to get others into the hobby as well. Having some models for people to try the game without buying things first might help draw some friends in.
Not sure what part of Texas you're in, but if you're in Central Texas, you might find this site a good place to find pickup games or meet people in the area: http://www.centexwar.com/warroom/

Wassup, Rosinator! Welcome to Dakka.
Yeah, I'm another who's more into the model making, sculpting, converting side of things. Although it's nice to crush the occasional foe beneath the steel-shod heel of heavily-converted minis!

Welcome! Feel no pain isn't that nerfed. It's weaker against low ap weapons (down to a 5+), but better against high ap weapons (now can't be cancelled out by anything). 40k is the shiz. I tried to resist, but I'm back after many years too.

Hi welcome to Dakka!
Just a heads up, feel no pain CAN be cancelled out, but only by weapons that would cause instant death to your model, so it's not very common that it is.

Also, how does one apply to be a member of the Ultramodrines? Are harsh trials involved, ones that would test my faith as a wargamer and resolve as a geek?

NONSENSE! With the current rules for 6th edition, and all wounds being taken on the modified toughness irrespective of weapon strength, death guard are still good even if FNP has been nerfed. Especially deathguard bikers if my cheese-whiz isn't quite so mouldy yet.

I'm pretty set on a deathwing army with tons of termies and dreads.
Could I convert the termies and dreads from AoBR pretty easily? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also do DA dreads have to be venerable to field them as deathwing?
