I haven't gotten my rulebook yet, so I haven't been able to get in any games or anything yet (and am basically still going on peoples' hearsay with my list writing), but I've got a couple lists written for my Wolves that I want to try out. They're not meant to be competitive/tournament-level, but I'd like it to be viable.

HQ
Wolf Lord (Terminator Armour, Power Fist, Storm Shield, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Wolf Tail Talisman, Saga of the Bear)
Rune Priest

ELITES
4x Wolf Guard (Arjac Rockfist, 2x Combi-melta/Powerfist, 1x Combi-melta/Power Weapon)

TROOPS
10x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, 2x Meltagun, Powerfist)
8x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltagun, Rhino)
8x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltagun, Rhino)
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltagun, Rhino)

FAST ATTACK
Stormeagle Gunship

HEAVY SUPPORT
6x Long Fangs (5x Missile Launchers)
6x Long Fangs (5x Missile Launchers)

FORTIFICATION
Aegis Defence Line (Icarus Lascannon)

TOTAL - 1997pts

The idea is to have my backfield objective(s) secured by the Aegis Defence Line (this is where the Long Fangs would go). The Long Fangs clear out any AA fire and allow for the 10x Grey Hunters, Arjac and the Wolf Lord to arrive in the Stormeagle. Obviously, this is my CC beatstick unit (I'm a sucker for Deathstars, it's how I like to play the game), and even if the Stormeagle gets shot down, Arjac and the Wolf Lord will easily survive the S10 AP2 blast (since they both have EW).

Alternatively, here's my idea for the army with Imperial Guard Allies:

HQ
Wolf Lord (Terminator Armour, Power Fist, Storm Shield, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Wolf Tail Talisman, Saga of the Bear)
Rune Priest
Company Command Squad (4x Sniper Rifles)

ELITES
3x Wolf Guard (Arjac Rockfist, 2x Combi-melta/Power Weapon)

TROOPS
10x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, 2x Meltagun, Powerfist)
8x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltagun, Rhino)
8x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltagun, Rhino)
Infantry Platoon:
-Platoon Command Squad (4x Sniper Rifles)
-Infantry Squad (Autocannon)
-Infantry Squad (Autocannon)

FAST ATTACK
Stormeagle Gunship

HEAVY SUPPORT
6x Long Fangs (5x Missile Launchers)
6x Long Fangs (5x Missile Launchers)
Hydra Flak Battery

FORTIFICATION
Aegis Defence Line

TOTAL - 1999pts

The Guard give me more troops to camp my objectives (preferably behind the Aegis Defence Line), and the Snipers give me some Precision Shots to snipe characters before I assault them. Ultimately, they're also really cheap so I'm not compromising my main army by having them in there. The Hydra is also there for some more reliable AA fire than the Icarus Lascannon.

Anyway, any thoughts/suggestions? I enjoy the assault phase, and want to keep my list assault-heavy, but I'm open to suggestions for refinement.

The rules have been taken down, probably so that Forge World can update them for 6th edition, but it's pretty obvious that they're just going to give it the Flyer rules. It's basically a cross between the Stormraven and Thunderhawk with a transport capacity of 20 (no Dreadnought) and a Vengeance Launcher (S5 AP4 Heavy 2) instead of the assault/plasma/las-cannon. Comes to 225pts without upgrades.

Obviously I'll need my opponents' permission to use it since it's a Forge World model, but most of the people I play are a-ok with it, and its rules are hardly unfair.

I've refined the Allies list, and I'm really liking the changes. I might actually buy up some Imperial Guard just so I can run it. Same basic idea as the last list, but with more AA fire, air support and psychic abilities. I'm probably going to give this list a shot because it uses a lot of the 6th ed changes (allies, psychic powers, flyers, AA guns, etc) so I can try them all out in one game.

HQ
Wolf Lord (Terminator Armour, Power Fist, Storm Shield, Wolf Tooth Necklace, Wolf Tail Talisman, Saga of the Bear)
Rune Priest (Master of Runes)
Primaris Psyker

ELITES
3x Wolf Guard (Combi-melta/Power Weapon)

TROOPS
10x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, 2x Meltagun, Powerfist)
9x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltagun, Rhino)
8x Grey Hunters (Wolf Standard, Mark of the Wulfen, Meltagun, Rhino)
Infantry Platoon:
-Platoon Command Squad (4x Sniper Rifles)
-Infantry Squad (Autocannon)
-Infantry Squad (Autocannon)

FAST ATTACK
Stormeagle Gunship
Vendetta Gunship

HEAVY SUPPORT
6x Long Fangs (5x Missile Launchers)
6x Long Fangs (5x Missile Launchers)

FORTIFICATION
Aegis Defence Line (Icarus Lascannon)

TOTAL - 1999pts

Question time.

Why take Terminator Armour instead of Runic ? on your Wolf Lord?

Mostly because I only have a Terminator version of him.

I like the logic.

Dont forget, Outflank confers. Might be interesting to plough some Grey Hunters into the flanks of a car park. If people are still gonna use car park, what with vehicles being that tad easier to wreck.

Theres another point. You could do with making one of those Grey Hunter Squads Plasmahunters, or even making some of the Long Fangs Plasmafangs.

Yeah that's something I'm considering, but in 5th I snipped all the plasma guns off my models because I have horrendous luck with Gets Hot. I might give it another go in 6th though, or at least try it on the Long Fangs.

Outflank is not as clear in fact. The unit with outflank confers to IC, but does IC with Outflank confers it to the unit?

I am putting together another SW/IG allied list and so far I've found that regimental advisors (Astropath and Master of the Fleet) are quite interesting options.

Looking to trade away 15mm Forged in Battle Pumas (still in the box).

The guy that gives you a +1 on reserve rolls is silly right now.

You'll be coming in on a 2+ every turn am I right? my rulebook isnt on hand.

Actually, just ignore that outflank confers thing. I cant find the rule FOR it.

I think with the challenge rule the best thing you can do with wolf guard is to run them with just a combi. If you are dying to put a CC weapon in the squad give it to a GH. This way if you get charged by something scary you can challenge them and blow a turn with it. If they are scared of your CC weapon they can always challenge you and if they have a higher initiative they will probably kill the WG. This way you run the best of both worlds. You get a truly "hidden" CC weapon AND an efficient challengeable WG that also packs a combi and buffs LD. Another thing i would change is the Iccarus Las. Flyers have low AV... you want higher ROF to get through their flyer saves. If you are planning on objective camping with Guard ditch the sniper rifles and add as many flamers and autocanons as you can while still keeping it fairly cheap. Flamers are worth their weight in gold for backfield IG infantry thanks to overwatch.

May the WAAC and pretzels be with you.

Thanks! I'm going to try it out with a friend this week for my first game of 6th edition I'm still making refinements though. I'm considering dropping the Infantry Platoon to minimize VPs and open up some points and replacing them with Plasma Vets, dropping the Icarus Lascannon and Master of Runes upgrade. With the extra points I want to pick up a 2nd Rune Priest (for even more Divination + Long Fang goodness!) and spend the extra points giving my Stormeagle a Typhoon Missile Launcher, Extra Armour and a Search Light. I think it makes the list a bit more solid than it was, although at the rate I'm going I'm sure I'll continue to change it up until I get some in-game experience.

btw, I'm only really running the Wolf Lord with his set-up for fluffy/personal reasons. For those who are looking at the list for ideas for their own, I'd recommend running Runic Armour instead of Terminator Armour.
