I recently started a dark eldar army with a lot of flying units, hellions, raiders, reavers, the whole nine yards.

Within the last 2 weeks, I have noticed that almost all my flying bases, no matter the size, are cracking to the point of splitting in half, including models I just bought.

It starts near the center hole as a purely inside, then spreads outwards and eventually breaks entirely in half.

I don't store them with the models on them and treat them well, does anyone know why this might be happening and what I can do about it?

Thanks

They can be very brittle, I've seen a lot of people replacing the stems with these;

Thanks for the recommendation!

Currently, the stems are doing the fine, the odd part is that the cracking appears in the circle bases the stems go into. They just break completely in half...

Are you dry fitting them or gluing the posts in? I've glued most of my standing Dark Eldar flying bases and I don't have a problem. I agree most of them have cracks but the glue helps them to stop cracking or hold them together strong to keep it from getting worse. I would say about a fourth of my bases come cracked but once glued its just a cosmetic annoyance.

Edit: Base to stem, not to model.

Yeah, I glue all my posts in and then paint both the base and the stem (as the glue tends to tarnish the clear finish). I've never been a fan of the transparent stems, so I paint them black (the idea of the transparent stem is you can see through them, but since they are bright and glossy they actually stand out more than if you just paint them black).

But yeah, try gluing the stems in if you aren't already, it'll "weld" the whole region around there. The bases often crack slightly as I'm fitting the stem, but I've never had one fully break in half in the decade and a half I've been collecting. I have on occasion had the stem snap off, but I just glue it down and paint it and it's all good (I think all the stems that have broken are ones I haven't glued).
