okay i'm curious, I haven't had a chance to get my hands on a rulebook. but from what I understand there are unique power weapons that don't follow the new (and stupid) power axe rules.

So my question is what are these now. I'm guessing the Frost axe and the halberd both qualify as unique and so are both ap 3 and NOT unwieldy

Info?

yeah, I love axes, just not the unwieldy rule for them, I think people are making TOO big a deal about it though as with the new edition terminators are going to be way harder to kill with most power weapons being ap 3 now. That's going to be a pain.

GK Force weapons are "unusual", meaning they are treated as AP3 along with the additional rules from their codex entry.

Frost Blades and Frost Axes are treated as Power Swords and Power Axes respectively.

Personally, I hope that all the FAQs will eventually be updated to have this kind of information. It will certainly clarify a lot of things.

I don't think the Unwieldy rule is really all that bad. You just have to find the right balance now between which power weapon will help you the most. Power Axes on single unit characters might not be the best idea because they could be easily killed in a challenge, but they work better when there's another character to accept your challenges for you. Otherwise, the bonus strength (which is even more awesome for Frost weapons!) and improved AP is well worth the drop in Initiative, IMHO.

Hrm, not to I1 though. -1Init I could have lived with, I'm striking after most similar things, but not after *everything*.

It especially hurts when you've got Chaos terminators, as previously you had your I4 powerweapons and I1 powerfists. Well, they don't come with powerswords, only Axes, a maul or two, and fists/chainfists, meaning everything in those units is either now I1 or only AP4.

Can't wolves take powerfists on regular troopers? So they don't need to worry about challenges anyway. Only snipers really get them, and you can't snipe someone in a rhino or close combat so the assault units should still be fine with hidden fists.

I'm actually really glad my power weapon-armed Chaos Terminators all have power axes. There are so few higher-Initiative AP2 weapons that these guys should be able to survive long enough to swing, while also being strong anti-Terminators themselves. Their low Strength was what made them hard for me to use, personally, so the Strength bonus we have now is well worth it.

Come to think of it, though, Frost Axes might not be as cost-effective for SW. But for Chaos, it's either that or spend 10pts per model on power fists...

The combination I'm currently considering is having an Aspring Champion with a pair of Lightning Claws (for Sv3+ or worse challengers), two Power Axes and a Chainfist, give them all the Mark of Khorne and lead with a Chaos Lord (who effectively makes the squad Fearless). Hugely effective? Probably not, but sounds like fun

here's an interesting fact. The Imperial guard book says power weapon everywhere, and you could easily model some axes on them. Voila, now your sergeants and commanders are are str 4 and can take out terminators.

Yep, power blob went from awesome to whatever exceeds awesome; tacos?

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

heck even the powerfists aren't that bad. CHEAP powerfists, and voila wound terminators on 2's and you suddenly have one of the best ways to deal with terminators.

Suppose that's true. IC's aren't really vulnerable when there's 4 other guys to take challenges. Fist away Lord Commissar.
