Does this mean that you cannot take KFF saves against overwatch shooting?

Not gold. Not plastic. Soon, Games Workshop miniatures will be forged entirely from narrative - a 5-man box costing £70, containing the highest-quality imaginary soldiers in the world. Why have miniatures? Why paint, assemble or convert when you can simply imagine your army? - Frozen Ocean

Seems so. Fluffwise, it is like the enemy is so close, they are within the force field and therefore ignore it.

I'd say so. Overwatch fire occurs as part of the assault process.

"In an assault", not "in the assault phase". I think there's a distinction to be made there. The rulebook also states that Overwatch is resolved like a shooting attack and that cover saves are allowed.

I would say you get the save.

Overwatch shots are taken before the assaulting unit actually charges, so I'd say the KFF still applies. Since the wording is 'no effect in assault' that means that if you hit one of the rare instances where you could get cover in assault (against exploding vehicles, iirc) the KFF save cannot be used.

Overwatch is used in an assault. You certainly cant use it outside of an assault. Do you allow kff cover saves when a vehicle explodes fron/in an assault?

If yes, then yes. If no, then no.
