A couple of weeks ago me and some friends stared to play =I= munda using the Death Squad rules. It has been great fun so far, and now I have a lot of new war bands in the works.

First the Fluff for the campaign setting we intend to play in...
Obscenia prime once was a thriving industrial and merchant Imperial world in the galactic north west of the Segmentum Obscurus. The only inhabitable world in the system it was home to 17 billion lojal imperial citizens it was a vital part of the Imperial presence in the sector. That all changed when the orks arrived!

In 085M42 a space hulk emerged in real space with out any warning in the outer parts of the Obscenia system. Several exploration expeditions was launched by the authorities but none returned. The space hulk was slowly drifting towards the central parts of the systems and the tech priests och the mecanicum estimated that the hulk would reach Obscenia prime in just under one standard year. It soon became clear that the hulk accelerated. It became clear that some thing was commanding the space hulk. Lon range sensors and astropath seers soon made it clear that the hulk was infested with orks. The planetary govenor Lord marshal Ian Curtis mobilised the PDF but Obscenia was not a martial world and he knew that the PDF would not be able to hold out for long. Lord Curtis sent out a plea to help to the imperial bureaucracy.

As the space hulk got closer to the planet it broke up in to smaller parts and started crashing down throw the planets atmosphere it Obscenias orbital defenses and escort fleet tried to fight them of but was no match for the orks.

The space hulk parts landed on the largest most populated continent and milions of orks started to flow out led by the mighty warlord Grosrak, overpowering the PDF. The largest part of the space hulk crashed straight in to Obscenias largest hive city instantly killing 7 billion people, an other 5 billion was killed in the orbitalbombardment and initial fighting.
The planet governors plea for help din not go unnoticed how ever. The battle fleet Emperors Glory was diverted to deal with the orks. The fleet was carrying tre whole regimentes of Imperial Guard, the 459:th Death corp of krieg infantry regimente, the 52:ed Kallistin armoured dragons, and the 8:th Thranxin rapid deployment force.

Whit in one Terran year the battle fleet reached Obscenias and started to land its troops. By then most of the PDF was destroyed, only smal groups of soldiers, citezens, arbites and other imperial personel remained and had taken to fighting the orks using guerrilla tactics.

The initial assault on the orks was a great succses, driving the orks in front of them the Imperial Guard started to cleans the main continent and ruined cities of orks. But soon the offensive ground to a halt and the orks counter attacked. The fighting was hard and dragged out over two Terran years, neither side gaingin the upper hand. The fighting had deteriorated to a war of attrition.

On the tird year the fleets astropathic choir and navigators warned the high command that they saw a gigantic warp storm coming that was going to trap the battle fleet in the Obscenias system for many years. The high command decided not to risk being trapped and started to evacuate as many Imperial Guards as possible. But time was scarce and it was impossible to extract them all. Not wiling to give the victory to the orks the fleet unleashed a massive orbital bombardment just before braking from orbit and heading for the warp transit point. The bombardment broke the back of the orks, killing warboss Grosrak and most of the orks, the Imperial guards that was left behind on the surface also took heavy losses and they was scattered in small bands across the now totally destroyed planet.

The war against the orks continues in small skirmishes over large parts of the main continent. Some guard units deserted, bitter over being left behind and sacrificed by the high command, fighting both orks and other guardsmen fore the few resources left on the surface. There has also been rumours amongs the survivors about herresy...

I like the Riddick model the most out of all of these excellent models. If I'm not mistaken, you used the Victoria Lamb bitz, right?

yes it is indeed the excellent Victoria Lamb bitz... they hare just beautiful!

The way I see it you can´t play =I= munda whit out a Inquisitor team... So I started to convert a Cortez model I had laying around to play the part as my Inquisitor team leader. This is how far I have come at this time



And of course an inquisitor will need some inquisitorial storm troopers...

Rifle man... (or is it hell gun man?)

These guys was great fun to build and a lot of bitz went in to them... the legs, trosos and heads are from Defiance Games UAMC models, the arms, weapons and IR-google are from the space marine scout kit. And the shoulder pads, backpacks and respirators are from the cadina kits.

These are all excellent, great use of bits that create a less uniform look than just using straight IG bits would. Makes them look much more individual and veteran. And some of those bits are really nice, love the penal legion collar thing. And I really like Bobby, he looks like a prototype for a new regiment of basic Imperial Guardsmen, like a Cadian but different.

One question though - is it still =I=munda if you aren't using Necromunda rules? I haven't really looked at Death Squad - it's not the same ruleset is it? Sounds like you invented =I=squad.

hmm i guess your right... when we started talk about a 40k skirmish game we talked in terms of =I=munda and it just stuck. We test played the Necromunda rules and the Death Squad rules and at first found the the Death Squad rules to be best (they are a mix of the Necromunda rules and Mordheim whit a lot of "house rules")
But now we are leaning towards going back to necromunda because the campaign rules, especial when we found this! being lazy none of us had the time or energy to write our own "codex" list for the "gangs" so it was a nice find

Hah yeah, that site you found is the =I=munda rules as far as it goes. There are a few more rulesheets scattered about the web and it's all compatible with Necromunda gang sheets except they are a bit more powerful. Check out Anthony Case's website for the best version of the Necromunda rules and some extra scenarios etc. ( link).

Your models are all excellent. That Nurgle lord gets converted a lot but I really like yours, it's quite subtle but the parts mesh perfectly. The World Eater is awesome, he looks a little bit weightless but basically really cool.

a little bit of WIP on my Nexus pattern Rapier laser destroyer. Its a more boxy variant of the Graia Pattern Rapier.



Gun shield, sensors, sights and crew is coming up... and I was contemplating lengthening the barrels a bit to make it a bit less boxy... what do you think?

yes it´s the defiance models combined with GW parts. They are roughly the same size to Cadians. I will try to take a side by side pic later to day.

I think it´s all in all a great kit, but the original arms and weapons are really tiny and don't fit in whit GW:s models at all.

some close air support for the ground troops of my imperial guard army! Don´t know if i´m going to run this one as a Vulture gunship or may by a Avenger strike fighter
