Sorry... my book is STILL in the mail...
But a character with SnP joining a unit confer that ability to the squad? Does it also confer Relentless?
For example...
BigMek in MegaArmour joins a squad of Lootas...
The the whole squad to move/shoot (albeit at BS2)??

whembly I am surprised with you. You know full well that dakka is not a replacement for the rulebook. Asking for rules, what is this world coming to?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

There is a big difference between "[hating] close combat" and wanting to make shooting practical. Remember, for the past ten or so years, a game for shooting armies ended at turn 2, win or lose, better or worse.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular." |

This, but even with this close combat has just been upped mostly for the big boys, namely flying MC's

If I understand the rule correctly .. SnP now means that you move the full distance during the movement phase, and cannot run, but can fire any weapon type after movement as well as charging after (essentially the same as relentless). My questions are as follows:
1) How does the movement phase work with difficult terrain in regards to moving with the SnP special rule? I assume they still need to roll for moving through cover, which means that SnP is now more of a disadvantage than in past editions for units that often use cover, seeing as they can also no longer run.
2) In 5th edition the slow and purposeful rule was written out as; the movement restrictions of the rule + the relentless special rule. I am just wondering why they didn't do it this way, and essentially worded it as the movement restrictions + writting out relentless (in similar wording, but not exactly the same), without instead simply saying "they also have the relentless special rule" saving themselves space in the book, and time. The reason I say this is, I'm wondering if there is perhaps some subtle difference to that second part of SnP that IS in fact different from relentless (although I can't really see one), or if this is just an oversight.
3) Curious about other potential advantages and disadvantages to the changes of this special rule that I may have overlooked. I use Obliterators and may potentially use Thousand Sons, btw.
Thanks in advance.

Huh? I think you're off by an edition.
Do ya mean the advent of 5e, being 2008? I started 40k in 2004/5 just as 4e took off, and man, tau gun line was awesome! And 4e saw the end of Rhino - Rush (3e).

Beerfiend, I believe it is because S&P goes to the whole squad that they wrote out relentless in full.
Basically they are able to move further than they used to, but have less capacity for damage with overwatch etc.
Since every model with a heavy weapon that isnt blast or template can now snap fire when moving, the bonus for relentless isn't quite as offsetting as the negative.
Also, why would you run with most S&P units? Other than Meganobs?
