It could also be yet another mess up in the book. The usual FOC basics, 1 HQ and 2 troops, if i tuck an ally would the allies 1Troop requirment count towards my mandatory 2 troops? just flicked through the rules and it doesnt clarify either way that i cans see

You still have to take the minimums from the first FOC before adding in allies.

If you look at the image displaying the force organization chart, you will see that you are required to take 2 troops from your main army and if you decide to take allies you would need 1 of their troops. Total you will have 3 troops.

It does state that in order to have an allied force, you must first have a primary detachment.

If you have 1 HQ and 1 Troops with 1 HQ and 1 Troops as allies, have you got a Primary Detachment? No, since you still lack the second mandatory Troops choice.

They are considered 2 seperate FoC's, 1 Primary and 1 Allied. You still need to fill out the minimums for each FoC, 1 HQ and 2 Troop selections for your primary force and1 HQ and 1 Troop selection for your allied force.
