So my friends and I like playing big games and aren't big fans of the double FoC at 2000 points. So we were talking about doing a game of 2,000 points main army and a 1000 point Allied detachment (using Allied FoC) which seemed like it'd be fun. So I was looking at something like this:

I've never used Tau so I don't know about the loadouts 100% so I'd love to hear some comments on them. I won't buy it for awhile, considering waiting for 6th Ed Tau to see if they get new Suit models as the current ones kinda suck. Even so it's ~$260 ($330 at GW store prices)

So the idea is the Chimeras move up with the Demolishers. Vendettas pick off vehicles, if those are on lockdown then go into Hover and drop the Flamer squads onto fools. Infantry Squads hang out with the Quad-Gun behind the Aegis Defense Line (deployed as a long line, not that silly box like they show in the book!). Fire Warriors and Broadsides hang out behind the Aegis too if other buildings aren't great options. Crisis Suits either move up with the Chimera/Demo convoy for cover or move up the other side.

Also, for anyone who is familiar with Dust Tactics, would the Grim Reapers fit for Crisissuits and walkers for Broadsides? ( http://www.thewarstore.com/product67350.html and http://www.thewarstore.com/product58616.html )

Just going to comment on the Tau portion.

1. It's generally not advisable to use a Shas'o -- it's less points to use an 'el with a Targeting Array (+ HW Multi Tracker). You don't lose anything important, since your suits shouldn't be in hand to hand anyway.

2. The Command and Control Node no longer has any effect (check the FAQs)

3. Keep in mind suits only have three hardpoints -- so a Plasma Rifle + Burst Cannon + Multi Tracker + Targeting Array is not a valid setup. Make the Multi-tracker Hardwired to keep everything kosher (same point cost, so this is usually just a "formality")

4. Blacksun Filters now grant Night Fight, which in 6th is given to the entire unit as long as one model has it. So for your Crisis unit, I'd suggest only bringing one BSF, and giving the others Flamers (or Targeting Arrays). Better yet, make one a Team Leader with a Hardwired BSF and he can also bring a Flamer (or Targeting Array). Same for your Broadsides.

5. A single Markerlight in Fire Warrior units may not be too great. Keep in mind that this isn't a networked markerlight, meaning that the FWs that shoot it cannot also benefit from it. It's also a Heavy weapon, which forces your FWs (well, now just your 'ui) to stand still to use it. If you really want markerlights, a small Pathfinder unit is much more efficient.

6. 1 Drone Controller lets you bring 2 drones -- so unless a Broadside is using his support system for a Drone Controller, you have one too many drones there. I think you will find that your Broadsides perform better in your list if you bring a Targeting Array on each Broadside. Make one a Team Leader so he can bring Hardwired systems (BSF, Drone Controller, maybe a Multi-tracker).

7. Plasma Rifle / Missile Pod is a popular loadout on suits. But if you are planning on giving your suits infantry mop-up duties, Plasma Rifle / Burst Cannon is not a bad choice.

1. Yeah I was doing this to give LD10 as I worry about LD 8 on those expensive squads BUT

3. Bah, good to know! I clearly didn't read into the Tau codex thoroughly enough. The layout just really confuses me =(

5. Yeah, I also didn't realize that the markerlight only works with Tau units, so I can't have my IG getting that +1 BS, huh? I suck.

7. Yeah but I thought it'd be interesting to make them a bit more close range, to go along with the short ranged Chimeras and having the TL Missilepods act as mobile Hydras
