No need for FAQ. No permission is given for you to draw LOS from embarked unit except for certain defined things (same as 5e) so it works exactly as 5e did post FAQ.

Exactly. You can measure range to and from an embarked model by measuring to the hull, but you can only measure LOS for shooting attacks or psychic shooting attacks.
