I want to use my extra marines to make an ultramarines army. Now my question is should i go gold trim or yellow trim. Lookin for opinions on what would look better.

Gold. Whilst yellow has a nice retro feel to it, gold just looks plain better, IMO. The primary yellow on the primary blue always looked a bit too cartoony in my opinion, and the gold adds a nice regal quality to the scheme.

What company?

1st-white
2nd-yellow/gold
3rd-red
4th-green
5th-black

And those are just the battle companys. Don't feel locked in to yellow/gold as the only valid options.

But if you are picking one of those, I'd go gold over yellow.

was gunna do a little of all the companies depending on my load out. wanted to make it as flufly as posible. The reason i ask was cause the 2nd company seems to be the odd man out with the them being the only one with the metalic trim. All the others have flat colors. Wasnt sure wether to go gold or yellow on what would look best.

I think it's in the 5th ed. codex, but they definitely have an alternative metallic colour listed for each of the companies. Like, if memory serves, Red/Sanguinite for the third company. I think sanguinite is a made up thing, but you get the jist of what they're saying.

I'd go for yellow all day long. The more retro 40k is, the better it is in my opinion

Gold/white/red are the best trims in my opinion.

Historically, gold and silver are interchangeable with yellow and white (respectively) in heraldry, so 1st company vets could very reasonably be trimmed in silver, too. Not sure why that's never done, though, while gold is. If you plan to include other companies, I might lean toward yellow, so as to avoid the one group with metallic trim looking out of place. If sticking to 2nd company exclusively, I think the gold looks snazzier.

If they're old models, you've gotta do yellow trim. If they're new ones, go for the gold! I personally love both, but they're representative of very different eras.

if it were my army (red scorpions) only veterans and commanders get gold, but your talking about ultrasmurfs.

I personally think Gold looks better. You could try both on an old model before deciding.
