I have started a petition on Change.org

http://www.change.org/petitions/games-workshop-llc-bring-back-devlan-mud#

Many among the Warhammer hobby (and war gaming in general) have loved the ink washs provided by Citadel Miniatures, Devlan Mud in particular is well beloved for it's perfect earthy tone and the ease with which an entire model could be given a more unified tone with a simple wash, unfortunately these ink washes have been discontinued. The replacement products provided by Citadel have proven to not only be of a less satisfactory shade, but have proven to be watery, weak and altogether inferior to their predecessors. This petition is meant to galvanize GW into returning to the tried and true ink washes that, until now, have proven to be invaluable to hobbyists the world over.

Tell your friends and fellow hobyists and hopefully soon we can live in a world without watery and ineffectual washes.

Lol. This is why I bought 5 pots of Devlan Mud before the new paints release. I thought the consensus was that the new shades (Agrax Earthshade) were a lot better than the old ones?

honestly, Agrax earthshade looks like they took devlan mud and added water, and that's a generous statement in my opinion.

It's not. It's a completely different shade of brown, it's much lighter and slightly more yellow.

As has been said above, Army Painter makes a good alternative to Devlan. Also if you want something that does the same job as Devlan (a generic dark wash that can be used for almost anything) you can mix up your own.

I did a few reviews and comparisons over on Lustria Online.

me wrote:After mixing this Agrax and Nuln, I'm happy with the effect and aren't stressing about needing Devlan anymore as it gives basically the same effect... it's just for my 'nids I want to stick to Devlan since I don't want the slight change in tone which arises because you can never quite get the exact same colour.

My plan is just to buy another pot of Agrax and another pot of Nuln and pour almost all the Agrax straight into the Nuln (or maybe be slightly more precise and use a dropper to measure it out into an old pot).

EDIT: I retook the photo in natural light. Hormagaunt is Devlan Mud, Genestealer on left is Agrax, Stealer on right is 3:5 Agrax:Nuln, Stealer in the middle is 3:2 Agrax:Nuln.

I think to get even closer to Devlan it needs a tiny little bit of red mixed in, though in reality the 3:5 mix is a pretty close match as it is, you only really notice there because it's done over a white undercoat which highlights the very slight differences in colour tone. Over any other colour I don't think you'd notice the difference between the Devlan and the 3:5 mix.

You can of course mix your own wash from scratch to get whatever tone you want. But if you aren't that adventurous you could just buy a pot of Nuln, buy a pot of Agrax and mix a bit over half (about 60%) of the Agrax straight into the Nuln.
