I think this is a positive step forward.

NEWTON, Mass. — U.S. Rep. Barney Frank has tied the knot with his longtime partner in a ceremony officiated by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick.

Frank spokesman Harry Gural says the 72-year-old congressman married 42-year-old Jim Ready in a Saturday evening wedding at the Boston Marriott hotel in Newton. Gural says more than 300 friends, family and colleagues attended.

Frank, a Democrat who is retiring after more than three decades in office, represents the 4th Congressional District in southeastern Massachusetts.

Ready, of Ogunquit, Maine, has a small business doing custom awnings, carpentry, painting, welding and other general handyman services. He’s also a photographer.

No, this is just another stumbling block before we finally do away with this outmoded nonsense entirely. 'The Gays' shouldn't be fighting to get married, we should all be realizing it is a dumb idea, especially when it is anything more than a private contract between two people.

Is there any other way to browse the Off Topic forum?

Yes, Very Drunk, and Very Militant. Gimme an hour or two if this bonfire plan doesn't get off the ground.

As for the OP, I've honestly never cared if gay people, or any consenting people for that matter, want to get married.

My beliefs and opinions on homosexuality should have zero bearing on how other people live their lives.

If anything, I want it to be legalized across the country just so I don't have to hear about it so often. Just let them get married and be done with it.

Marriage stopped being a religious institution the second a government gave certain rights and restrictions to it. It is now a legal contract, nothing more.

If you want a religious marriage, go for it, and more power to you. But gay marriage has feth all to do with religion, and everything to do with legal equality, which should be universal in this country of ours.

Yeah, It really ought to be a deal where you go down to the courthouse, sign mutual powers of attorney or whatever you want, spell out the gak you are okay with ... IE this sonofabitch can pull the plug on me if he wants or not, he gets to determine the fall of my assets, he can be in the room with me whilst I get surgeries done, etc. It's really that there was this set of benefits decided on based on Married Yes[ ] No [ ] - when it should have all been spelled out in some sort of contract between the two parties. After all, we are a nation of laws, not of gay or hetero men.

You two are posting very sensible things in this thread, and thus are heavily going against the spirit of OT.

I have reported you both for this heinous conduct.

Don't worry one of the "enlightened" opposition will stumble in eventually to drag the thread down into the muck as per the usual...

First of all, Rep Frank getting married is old news.

I don't feel like doing the research right now, bedtime. So maybe someone can just answer it.

Is he marrying the long time boyfriend who ran a gay prostitution escort service thing out of thier house or is this a new one?

While I applaud them, I admit that I find this a bit creepy:

Frank spokesman Harry Gural says the 72-year-old congressman married 42-year-old Jim Ready

Mind you, I also find it creepy when a heterosexual relationship has the same age difference.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.
