As of now,I am creating a triple sternguard list that compliments both Kantor and Vulkan's abilities (scoring sternguard and TL meltas ftw)
So in a 10 man unit I field
4 combi meltas
2 heavy flamers
1 powerfist (for that occasional item that wont die in shooting)

Now I am debating with myself of using my sternguard with drop pods or rhinos.
If I get extremely lucky and pod myself near a LR, my meltas could easily pop it. Same thing by separating my meltas and flamers so If I pop a serpent filled with dragons/banshees, my flamers ignore cover and their saves! Only problem is is that they would footslog the whole game unless I have a gating libby.

With rhinos, I get my mobility, protection and occasional tank shock . But then these guys would be huge threats so they would take a lot of hits to just stop them.

Thoughts?

IIRC both Kantor and Vulkan's abilities are chapter tactics, meaning you have to pick one and only one to use.

Correct. You can have scoring sternguard OR twin-linked meltas, but not both.

P.S Pedro is awesome.

Sounds like you should have reread the rules a bit better...

I would go for using Pedro, because your sternguard have a pretty good BS anyway, and I would use drop pods, caus they're awesome, look cool and you can place them exactly where you want.

However, Pedro's +1A bubble is still a nice thing for Hammernators or Iclad dreadnoughts, both of which benifit from Vulkan.

Both Lord Rogukiel and Grey Templar have good points. You should propably use the abilities of the character that you think will benefit your forces the most. Drop pods are accurate and can transport dreadnoughts if you so wish.

'Pods are more reliable i would think. With transport being a bit more fragile now at least you can guarantee the Drop Pod will actually get to where you want it to be.

One thing about drop pods though is that building a drop pod is like getting kicked in the balls.

Only if you put in all the harnesses. I just gave up on my 2 pods, then I sold them to the BT player.

Okay haven't read the new rules yet so take this with a bunch of salt:

Can't C:SM ally with another C:SM? Pedro for the allied HQ, then allied Sternguard under him would be considered scoring, while the rest of the army benefits from Vulkan's chapter tactics. Is this possible?

I got one drop pod with my battleforce so I built it even though I wasn't planning on it being in my list. I wanted it to look nice, so I took my time. Airbrush, weathering powders, chipping yadda yadda yadda. I could have built two really nice land raiders in the time it took me to finish that one. I actually did finish 4 Rhinos and 3 Razorbacks to the same quality and in less time.

Granted, it was the first and only one I've built - so I would do a few things differently that would speed things up if I did it again. But I decided right there that I wasn't going to field an all drop pod army. They're just too much work for me.

I do not believe armies can ally with themselves.

Correct, you cannot ally with your own Codex. Thats what that blank diagonal is on the allies matrix.

Yeah if an army was able to ally with itself that'd be super cheesy, I mean it would be live giving yourself another force organization ch....oh...wait...

Played a game last night against a marine player who fieldied a Rhin and a 'Pod.

the rhino got popped in turn one and never got the chance to moe, starding his Tac squad in a ruin in a userless position.

The 'Pod came in in Turn on, plopped out a unit of SternGuard and Libby who proceeded to eat my Destroyers and blast away a sqaud of warriors.

'Pod is much more reliable. Just bear in mind that it cant drop and shoot the missile launcher ont he turn it arrives now (counts a smoving at cruising speed so can only snapshot - you can't snap shot blast weapons).

if i had a marine army i woudl be looking for 'Pods rather than rhinos right about now.

True, but if you're really really careful when moving it about, all you should have to do is *carefull* plop it down on the battlefield and leave it there, hoping some nosy kid won'd decide to pick it up and break off all the doors.

OT: it does sound like drop pods are the way to go. especially with reserves having a better chance of arriving earlier now.
