Figured we might as well have a thread on it, since we don't get a forum to ourselves.
I, myself, have always like Shields of all forms in shooters, and Infinity seemed like the perfect place to have them. So what do you guys think about this:
Riot Sheild: Riot Sheilds are widely varied, being anywhere from sophisticated sheilds with weapon holders and glass eye holes, to a simple car door. Units equiped with Riot Sheilds gain +3 Armor to the front and Valor: Courage, but may never use an ARO to Dodge, nore may they move twice in the same order (Short Movement skills are allowed twice, but you may not Move ~ Move). Additionally, such is it's bulk, the user Always Strikes Last, any enemy in close combat may make it's attacks as a normal role with the bearer rolling afterward. If both models have Riot Sheilds, resolve it as a Face to Face roll as normal.
Armor Peircing Ammo does reduce this additional armor. If a Template of any sort originates behind the model, both bonuses are lost. Riot Sheilds MAY be picked up by the Booty Skill.
I'm waiting for the Kaplan Securities profile to come out before I actually make a unit with a Riot Sheild. Wanted your guy's opinions on the proposed sheild, though. Naturally, weapon choices are severly limited, with them only starting out with a Pistol and Flashbangs, being able to upgrade to a Light Flamethrower, Light Shotgun, and Spitfire (Being very expensive in SWC)
So, feel free to post your own and critique other peoples.

Seems to be too many rules attached to a single piece of equipment.
We have:
- +3 Armor to front
- V: Courage
- Cannot Dodge
- Cannot Move-Move
- Always Strikes Last
The rest is just clarification on interactions with other skills.
It seems really complex.
It's even more complicated that the Nanoscreen which is comparable in fluff.

You seem to be deriving too many rules from shooter games. Keep it simple. Just make it a Nanoscreen that instead of providing Total Cover from a direction, it grants Partial Cover and allows AP weapons.
--
As for extra rules, I've always wanted there to be some sort of Sentry Gun equipment.
A deployable immobile weapon similar to mines and e/maulers that has a low- BS (~8 or 9) that only acts in ARO and doesn't provide orders.
Affected by E/M ammunition. Hackable by the enemy.
Perhaps even allow friendly hackers to 'take control' of the gun to use their own (likely superior) BS to fire in-turn or in ARO so long as it's in the ZoC.
Profile of the model will specify the type of weapon the sentry is equipped with similar to how mines are subtyped.
It'd be a great piece of equipment as support equipment for Line and Garrison Troops to utilize; a Fusilier could deploy a Sentry somewhere to aid in area denial or fire support.
Or, it would be a great piece of equipment for a Hacker to utilize aggressively.

I like the Sentry gun. Something like that was in Tournament I played in a few years ago. It was protecting an objective. It could be destroyed or hacked. It was essentially a non-moving remote.

Sentry guns/turrets seem fun popular ideas. One of the more memorable scenarios our community wrote involved a shared extraction point, and one of those (in our case, we used a Total Action remote sans movement) sitting in the middle of the exit lift from a collapsing base. Much fun was had as the players fought between themselves and the gun at the last turn.

I like the idea of some rules to go with terrain.
Electric Fence: Impassible Terrain unless hit with a EXP template weapon, or an opening is made by an Engineer. Touching it is the same as Electric Pulse.
I need to work out particulars but you get the idea.

re: Electric Fence, I like. Might extend the vulnerability to other ammo/weapon types to to include DA, as well as EM & EM2 ammunition.
Electric Pulse is a bit problematic as it's only used versus a CC roll iirc, which might not apply if a model tries to climb over it or interact with it while touching it.
EDIT: Wait, I got it, you can use something similar. Impose a -6 to PH rolls when attempting to climb, and if Failure Category is within that penalty zone, shock. Just like Electric Shock versus CC, only applied to PH climbing rolls.

Funny, I was just working out electric fence rules for my Aristeia! arena (it has that plus a bit of conventional barbed wire dividing some of the areas).
Mine's divided into sections of fence strung between pylons (aka big posts). So I'm just going to rule that disabling a pylon kills the sections to either side. Pylons are ARM3 BTS -3 STR1, and vulnerable to E/M weaponry.
If a section of fence (or a pylon) is not deactivated, touching it (climbing it, hugging it for cover, etc.) delivers an Electric Pulse (ie automatically Immobilized during that game turn and an IMM Marker is placed next to his figure). If you choose to attack the pylon in CC, the regular rules for attacking a model with Electric Pulse apply.
Those should be pretty simple rules. Nothing new, just extension of the existing system. Makes it easier to remember and leaves room for new rules for things that are more unsual.

I've been thinking of non-lethal weapons that might be employed by O-12.
One is an Adhesive mine: It acts just like a regular mine but uses Adhesive Ammo.

Problem with that is that E/M weaponry shuts down people's cubes and that's a huge no-no in O-12.

That actually might be a cool terrain function for, say, a lava board. Mine-like markers that represent natural fire hazards, only triggered half the time when you enter their ZOC.

You are right there. That is a big fluff counter. It could though have a some ability to determine if it's a person or a vehicle, like a TAG. Then it would be virtually useless for the game though.

Granted, i am insanely new to the game, so please correct me if im wrong. But after a quick glimpse through the wiki (which isnt blocked at work, huzzah!) pretty much EVERY weapon is forbidden by the Concilium Convention....and there ARE E/M weapons, so how is this any worse/fluff-counter than the others? EDIT: for example: Chain Rifle, Flamethrower, Monofilament weapons/mines...etc. etc. some pretty damn common weapons straight off the bat

Just thought of a new Proposed rule. But it's more of a rule change. I would like for some troops, the designation of Irregular to change depending on what force they are in. In one force that troop is common as dirt but in another they are very rare and ad hoc. This would mainly come up in general and sectoral forces. For instance, in Yu Jing, Monks are Irregular, but if they make sectoral including them they could be Regular. Of course there will still be troops that are irregular no mater what. Like Caledonian Volunteers would always be Irregular even in their own sectoral.

Ok, so I was looking at Merc characters the other day, and I noticed something; Mercs have no Ranged specced characters! So, in order to try to fix that, we have Ricard, the Burned Man.
Ricard, the Burned Man
Move: 4-2
CC: 14
BS: 14
PH: 10
WIP: 14
ARM: 0
BTS: 0
W: 1
AVA: 1
Pts: 59
Equipment:
Sniper Rifle w/ Flame Rounds
CH: Mimetism
Veteran
Multispectral Visor lvl1
Knife
I didn't work on his story very much, but basically he was an Ariadna Marksman who got burned incredibly badly during a Yu-Jing operation on Ariadna, so after being discharged of service he hires himself out to anyone who will pay him, except Yu-Jing, whom he fights for a discount.
Toned him down a little bit

They would probably have a regular character in that sectorial with "inspiring leadership" (makes them "regular" while he is Lt) - in much the same was as the skirt-wearing, rusty steel wielding scottish madboys in an army led by Wallace.
Call him "Grasshopper" (or perhaps not).

Not enough, you didn't.
MSV3 is incredibly rare and most factions don't even get access to it. Adding it to a Merc that can be added to any faction is not likely to end well when you consider combinations like Caledonian Sectorials chock-full of cheap Smoke Grenade-wielding Caledonians.
There's a reason why there are no Mercs with MSV2 or higher...

Esentiall the same as taking a character but this way you don't have to. It's the army not the character. I suppose there could be a Monk leader but I'd rather not take a guy for that.
