Hi All,

So I just finished playing my first 6th edition game with my orks against a daemon player at the local friendly gaming shop. Ill start with the lists to the best of my abilities (I do not know his to a t).

The Orks
HQ
Warboss (bike, pk, attack squig, cybork) - Joined with the biker nobz
Big Mek (KFF)

TROOPS
Nob Bikerz x 5 (3 pks, 1 BC, BP, Banner, Painboy, Orderly, Cybork all around)
Shoota Boyz x 20 (nob, pk, bp, 2 big shootas)
Shoota Boyz x 20 (nob, pk, bp, 2 big shootas)

ELITES
Lootas x 15

HEAVY SUPPORT
3 wagons (deff rolla, red paint, stikk bombz)

FAST ATTACK
Deff Kotpaz x 3 (twin linked rokkits)
Dakka Jets x 2 (extra supa shoota)

The Daemons
not sure what was hq, elites, troops, etc so heres just a list of the models

FLYING MONSTROUS CREATURES
Blood Thirster (decked out with tons of stuff)
Fate Weaver (equally decked out)
Daemon Prince (typical looking cc daemon prince)
Nurgle Daemon Price (with the sword)

SCORING UNITS
Plague Bearers x 5
Plauge Bearers x 5
Plauge Bearers x 5

OTHER STUFF
Seekers of Slanesh x 15 or so, a bunch of them...probably a maxed out squad
Fiends x 10 or so
Manta Ray looking things with a str 8 weapon

So onto the game.
We rolled Vanguard deployment and the Crusade mission with 4 objectives. The objectives were one on my side inside a ruined building, one on his side in a ruined building and two in the open. For warlord traits I rolled Inspiring Presence, and the Daemons rolled Strategic Genius (damn!). Orks rolled and won for the deployment order and forgetting the chaos all start in reserves I decided to deploy first and go first...

First Turn (and ork deployment)
Orks - turn 1
2 battlewagons full of boyz on the left side of the field, lootas && Big Mek in a battlewagon on top of a hill to the right and defkoptas behind them. Warboss, bikerz and Dakkajets in reserves. Sit and do nothing since Chaos deployment doesn't happen till his turn. Damn!

Chaos - turn 1
Deploy/move
Rolls successfully for the half of his forces that he wants. Blood Thirster, Fate Weaver, Daemon Prince and 2 plague bearer squads come on the board. Plague bearers deployed ontop of his objectives, bloodthirster, fateweaver and daemon prince are dangerously close to my lootas which are a little too far from the boyz for too much help. Moves them closer :/
Shooting
Shoots fateweaver and the daemon prince at the wagon and successfully doing nothing.
Assault
Can't everything is in flying mode

Turn Two
Orks

Movement
Roll for reserves and get everything . Things are looking good. Lootas don't move, All the boyz move about 3" towards plague bearers (didn't want to over extend with a high chance of the rest of the army coming in next turn and having a shot at back armour). Bikerz and Warboss come in right in front of fate weaver and the blood thirster with dakkajets coming in from the far corner pointed directly at the fateweaver.
Shooting
First Dakka Jet shoots at the flying fate weaver. several hits, failed roll to keep flight, goes to ground, suffers a wound and fails 1 other wound! Hell yes, 1 dakka jet just did 2 wounds to a fate weaver . Lootas unload on the now grounded fateweaver, rolling a 1 for number of shots, many hits, and no wounds resulting. Bikerz fire doing absolutely nothing to it. Dakkajet 2 fires and kills it! HECK YES! Koptas fire at the Bloodthirster and do absolutely nothing.
Assault
Bikerz are in range but just came from reserves, and lootas are smart enough to not assault a bloodthirster.

Daemons
Movement
Rolls the rest of his army out of reserves except the Nurgle Demon Prince (thank goodness). Manta Ray things come in dangerously close to the lootas (this side of the board is looking a bit scary). Seekers right behind them, fiends near the boyz and the rest of the plague bearers in front of the fiends. Moves Bloodthirster and demon prince pretty much into base with the bikers, ray things in front of the lootas, and seekers behind them. Fiends and plague bearers approach boyz.

Shooting
Demon and Bloodthirster shoot something unsuccessful at the bikerz.

Assault
Prince and Bloodthirster both assault the bikerz (OH gak!) Overwatch does nothing. Bloodthirster issues out a challenge (which I decline) so warboss doesn't swing. After all his attacks, I only lose a single nob and 1 wound on another, whew. Swinging back puts 1 wound on each.
Manta Rays wreck the lootas wagon through hull points.
Turn Three
Orks

Movement
Lootas stay still, boyz move quickly towards fiends & plague bearers. Deffkoptaz move away from the manta rays but in range still. Dakka Jets move 18" pointing at the seekers instead.

Shooting
Dakkajets collectively reduce seekers down to about 1/3 the original size (nice shooting boyz!) Lootas take down all but 3 mantas. Boyz reduce both plague bearer squads down to 1 plague bearer per squad. Rokkitz take out another 2 Manta Rays, so only 1 left. My opponent looks very unhappy about how that round turned out having lost a large portion to ork shooting.

Assault
Nothing assaults, but current biker combat goes on. Again My boss is challenged and is not swinging. 2 more nobz down and 1 wound on the prince, not looking pretty on that side of the board 1 painboy 1 pk nob and 1 warboss vs a bloodthirster and a cc daemon prince.

Daemons
Movement
Nurgle Prince comes onto the board. Runs the plague bearers away from the boyz and moves the fiends up. Nurgle Prince comes towards the boyz. Remaining Manta comes after the boyz and seekers file in where they once were.

Shooting
Nurgle Demon Flamers both wagons and puts a hull point on both.

Assault
Seekers assault the lootas, which overwatch and slay all but 4 seekers killing a few of the lootas. Manta assaults the boyz (rolling double 6s) and misses on the back armor of the left most wagon. Blood Thirster challenges again, again I decline. Nob and painboy dead, no more remaining swings :/

So at this point my opponent looks very upset that nearly his entire army is gone aside from fiends, and his 3 daemons. I am worried about when that Blood Thirster and Daemon prince are freed up.

Turn Four
Orks

Movement
Boyz move just enough so attacks on wagons are not auto attacks (they are pretty much ontop of an objective as well). Dakka jets move and position themselves to aim at the blood thirster next turn.

Shooting
Boyz Fire at the Fiends killing again about half of them (Don't underestimate ork shooting). Koptas fire at the nurgle prince and miss entirely

Assault
Warboss dies, bloodthirster and demon prince consolidate and move towards boyz. Lootas finish off the seekers

Daemons
Movement
daemon prince and bloodthirster fly towards the boyz vector striking lootas on the way and killing the big mek and a single loota.

Shooting
Nothing

Assault
Nurgle Prince decimates the wagon nearest him, gets a blown up effect, which takes the boyz down to 11 left (still fearless!)

Roll for another turn (good, cuz Im losing with no objectives and a few dead units)

Turn Five
Orks

Movement
Aim dakkajets right at that bloodthirster. Keep lootas where they are, move koptas far away but still in range of blood thirster. Reverse the remaining wagon and tank shot the manta in the way (try to get an uncontested objective), which rolls straight 6's (except for leadership) and blows the damned thing up. (DEVESTATING) takes that squad down to 13, but reduces the other squad down to 8.

Shooting
WAAAAGH! and what a waaagh it is. Dakkajet one takes its 18 twin linked shots at the bloodthirster and slays it! Dakkajet 2 takes 18 shots at the cc demon prince and slays it! Damn these things are worth their points in gold. Shoot the rokkits at the manta, killing it. and shoot the boyz at the fiends killing the rest of them! All that he has left is a nurgle prince, 2 1 man squads of plague bearers and a 5 man squad in ruins of plague bearers hugging an objective.

Assault
Don't Nothing is in range aside from a prince, which I want to stay out of cc with as long as possible.

Daemons
Movement
Run the remaining plague bearers towards another objective (which is far away).

Shooting
Nothing

Assault
Assaults nurgle prince into the boyz squad with 8 left. The nob challenges the prince and gets removed from the 41st millennium.

So at this point we each have 1 uncontested objective, however he is beating me by 1 victory point. We roll and get ONE MORE ROUND! YES!

Turn Six
Orks

Movement
bigger squad of boyz hug the nearby objective better and get in the ruins. Dakka jets both turn and aim at the same remaining plague bearer

Shooting
Dakkajets down the last plague bearer and we decide that's the end of the game.

It was a good game and we both learned a lot about the new rules and eachothers armies as well as our own.

All Nobz count as Characters, so you could have had any of your Nob Bikers accept the challenge and leave your Warboss free to take his swings for a few rounds rather than let the Mob be a 600~ point speedbump. Good victory. Glad to hear that the Waaagh! is alive a well.

I don't write the rules. My ego just lives and dies by them one model at a time.

Nice report, and an intriguing early look at playing daemons in 6th. My impression is that your opponent really wanted his flying monstrous creatures, especially the bloodthirster, to be concentrating on taking out your flyers if at all possible. Getting mired in combat with the nob bikerz really cost him.

We forgot about a bunch of rules :/ Like I totally forgot my bikerz had feel no pain for the first few rounds of combat.

Just wondering what your reason was for declining the challenges. Even aside from having the Bikers take the challenge instead of the Boss (meaning one of those big nasties could do nothing to the rest of the mob that turn), the Warboss should have had a decent chance at taking one of them out, or at least severely wounding it. T6, Strength 10, with around 4 or 5 attacks isn't something that backs down from a fight.

GENERATION 8: The first time you see this, copy and paste it into your sig and add 1 to the number after generation. Consider it a social experiment.

If yer an Ork, why dont ya WAAAGH!!

He had a forgeworld model of the blood thirster, and I hadn't fought one before, so I think it may have been more of a psychological thing than anything.

In retrospect, I should have taken the challenge, because I probably could have done more damage to it that way, though chances were pretty decent he was going to take out my boss in a single turn or two.

Must be hard playing Daemons against Orks. So few models with Invulnerable saves which aren't important against lots of high AP shots.

Did he ever have a chance?

To me the Chaos Space Marines needed to be characterised as a threat reaching back to the Imperium's past, a threat which had refused to lie down and become part of history. This is in part why the gods of Chaos are less pivotal in Codex Chaos; we felt that the motivations of Chaos Space Marines should remain their own, no matter how debased and vile. Though the corrupted Space Marines of the Traitor Legions make excellent champions for the gods of Chaos, they are not pawns and have their own agendas of vengeance, empire-building vindication or arcane study which gives them purpose.

He did while fateweaver was alive.

It sounds like fateweaver died to about 4 or 5 wounds, after failing the crash test as well. It should take 27.

Agreed Kairos is not meant to die like that, unlucky for him, and ye bloodthirster should have remained swooping and killed all flyers before going for combat, but otherwise nice game

Nice report! I play Daemons and am glad to see how things might go. One thing I noticed that was wrong was the grounding of Fateweaver early on. A grounded FMC can be assaulted, but doesn't stop swooping! So it's still snap shots to hit him even after he crash lands.

Then again Orks are already halfway to snap shots on a good day, so maybe it wasn't a big difference.

What? What kind of ork are you?

Manta rays = Screamers

I have found orks are hard to beat with daemons. Now with overwatch, it seems harder than ever.

Sounded like a fun game but frankly any Ork character refusing a challenge should be gutted by the rest of the mob.

I'm curious as to with the fliers how you managed two turns of shooting before having to leave the board. We're his troops lined up so you could just fly across them and take two separate units I. Two turn in one giant strafing run or did you hover and turn 90 degrees (cuz that's the max turn in case for some really weird reason no one knows that) in which case why didn't he try take you out with his screamers (manta rays). It sounds like a good game, though you are lucky you were um lucky, in terms of the game continuing. Good tactics (for the majority of moves) by both sides. Gotta feel for daemons playing against Orks though. Pics would be nice!

I'll do pics next time

As for the flying, we started off in a diagonal deployment and I started my fliers off at the Very tip edge of the board, and advanced them the minimal amount. Their targets were pretty far on the other side and movement worked out to be extremely close on the second round of shooting (my flyers were maybe an inch or two from his models.

We also misread a lot of rules, so that could account for it

You each got vp for killing your opponents warlord.

Also, did either/both of you get the vp for linbreaker?

Also, whoever killed the first unit should have gotten 1 vp for First Blood.

The daemon player player should not have issued the challenge.
Also they could smash attack, in order to instant kill nobs, which is probably needed due to LoS.

I was very impressed you held back from cc, it is very hard for an ork to do.
Also nice handling of the fateweaver.
Were they giggling when you decided to go first?

We did the warlord vps, I got a vp for first blood. I am unsure about linebreaker.

He laughed the first turn of course. I'll have to watch the smash attack next time.
