NUTS! Was General Anthony McAuliffe infamous response to the Germans demands of American surrender. It also seems to aptly be the title for the next sourcebook.
Battlefront have mentioned that the intend to include the 101st Airbourne's defence of Bastogne and also the introduction of Volksgrenadiers. that means more winter, Ardennes action.
so, any thoughts on special characters?
As Battlefront mention Band of Brothers in a number of their publications I'm going for Ronald Spiers, given that he made such a name for himself in the battle of Foy.

I would love to see Easy Company represented by themselves, and also the option of building a PIR Coy off another Bn.
For Easy Coy men, I'd say 1st Sgt Carwood Lipton would be an appropriate entry.

According to the rumblings on the Battlefront website, it sounds like a Volksgrenadierkompanie has been confirmed. 26. Volksgrenadier sounds like a possible choice, and some other people have mentioned the 272. Volksgrenadier as well, so I guess we'll see. There's certainly a pretty wide variety of units that the book could cover, depending on how specific Battlefront wants to get. It'd be cool to see a Fusilierkompanie list as well.

Considering that there is already a set of WW2 rules called NUTS! this can only cause confusion.

I was thinking this thread was about the game Nuts! at first, but then I saw it was about the next FOW book. Even so, I don't think it'll cause that much confusion, especially considering the game Nuts!, while certainly a good game, isn't nearly as popular as Flames of War. It's also more of a skirmish game, so I don't think there will be too much of a problem with Flames of War or other WW2 player confusing the two books.

I always assumed that it implied something like NUTS! = NONSENSE! Which would be the kind of reply which makes sense (pun intended). Unless I was very very wrong with those linguistic nuances...

It does by implication, but again the lack of complete clarity.

I think theGEneral was implying one of theese terms for his famous quote.
Nuts is slang for the testicles.
Nuts is slang for insane.
I had taken theese from a AMerican Slang Dictionary.

From Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_McAuliffe
On December 22, 1944, through a party consisting of a major, a lieutenant, and two enlisted men under a flag of truce that entered the American lines southeast of Bastogne (occupied by Company F, 2nd Battalion, 327th Glider Infantry), General von Lüttwitz sent the following ultimatum to Gen. McAuliffe:
To the U.S.A. Commander of the encircled town of Bastogne.
The fortune of war is changing. This time the U.S.A. forces in and near Bastogne have been encircled by strong German armored units. More German armored units have crossed the river Our near Ortheuville, have taken Marche and reached St. Hubert by passing through Hompre-Sibret-Tillet. Libramont is in German hands.
There is only one possibility to save the encircled U.S.A. troops from total annihilation: that is the honorable surrender of the encircled town. In order to think it over a term of two hours will be granted beginning with the presentation of this note.
If this proposal should be rejected one German Artillery Corps and six heavy A. A. Battalions are ready to annihilate the U.S.A. troops in and near Bastogne. The order for firing will be given immediately after this two hours term.
All the serious civilian losses caused by this artillery fire would not correspond with the well-known American humanity.
The German Commander.
According to various accounts from those present, when McAuliffe was told of the German demand for surrender he said "nuts". At a loss for an official reply, Lt. Col. Harry Kinnard suggested that his first remark summed up the situation well, which was agreed to by the others. The official reply was typed and delivered by Colonel Joseph Harper, commanding the 327th Glider Infantry, to the German delegation. It was as follows:
To the German Commander.
NUTS!
The American Commander
Suffice it to say, the Germans were perplexed at the short reply. Harper offered an explanation of the meaning of the word to the Germans, telling them that in "plain English" it meant "Go to hell". The word choice came directly from McAuliffe and was typical for him. Vincent Vicari, his personal aide at the time, recalled that "General Mac was the only general I ever knew who did not use profane language. 'Nuts' was part of his normal vocabulary."

I guess one of the rumors going around with this book is 101st. Easy company apperance. For me( Saying jokingly) big deal. I play the 502nd anyways. They were one of the few units to make a Bayoney attack in ww2.The only good thing for me about Easy would the new hero. Then with the Firestorm 40k Style box set to released i wonder how many 101st. Airborne player are going to be show up now. Were as of now i can hardly find another 101st. player. I know locally were i am at i am the only one out of twenty players. So i guss next spring ebay willl be stocked with my reinforcements,,,,got to love all of the players that play the flavor of the month. The main reson i even got in to playing the 101st. was because of my brothers, They piicked the force. One was actually in the 502nd and the other was in 173rd. My brother in law who was in the 173rd said he would have joined the 101st. but they are no longer Paratroopers and are Air Assult. He jokes and said they turned them into a Damn Glider Division.
