Hi all,

this will be a place talk about my Codex: Space Marines army, and the various projects associated with it. I've made a fair amount of this army already, with around 2000 points painted up to decent standards. I typically played a Pedro Kantor army in 5th edition, either with razorbacks or as a drop pod force, with lots of sternguard and an honour guard unit. I've also occasionally played a deathwing list, but this is still in the conversion stage.

I haven't really sorted my list in sixth yet, but I'm playing around with ideas, including a mixed drop pod/vindicator list, and including a regiment of guard in as allies with my drop pod list, as a fluffy way to symbolise the marines dropping in to save the lowly foot troopers.

The main point of starting this blog today is to show off the latest addition to my list - one of the new storm talons. As with everything in my list, it's been converted and kitbashed. I like the idea of the storm talon, but as has been documented a lot, the clunkiness of the weapon mounting is a real detriment to the standard model. I decided that the assault cannon had to be incorporated into the nose, and didn't want to use the missile pods as although they look good on their own, they look very silly either side of the cockpit.

I decided to take a version inspired by the Hind helicopter, as used in Metal Gear Solid and various other places. With this in mind, I chopped back the AC turret and mounting a lot to leave it flush to the nose, and removed the bottom part of the tail as it didn't seem necessary. I thought about using different wings, as found in the other great conversions that use the Storm Raven wings, but didn't want to buy too much extra kit. Instead I found that if the wings are swapped over to the other side and turned upside down, it looks a lot more aerodynamic.

I tried out a bunch of different approaches for the missiles, but to get that Hind look I found what I think is a winning solution. The smaller of the two Whirlwind standalone missiles was placed on the wing tip, with the sentinel/chimera hunter killer missiles mounted halfway between the engines and the wingtip. I've added the single landing gear beneath the cockpit, and will add the other two pads to the bottom of the engines, as this also seems to make far more sense. I'm really happy with how it all came out, I think it looks far more like something that can fly and fight, although admittedly the rotation of the engine doesn't look so good now, but it's a model not a toy!

Let me know what you all think!
