Heavy support

The strategy is to cruise the crusader rhinos and grab any objective. If there isn't any objectives then they will act as fire support. In the meantime the 15 man crusader squad will foot-slug across the battlefield and do some assaulting. They will work fine against horde assaulters (tyranids and orks) due to their sheer size. The Reclusiarch and the assault squad will act as the sledgehammer and will hit the enemy at the most crucial time (or something). The Land Raider and the vindicator will deploy on each flank.

This is my first army Black templars army list so please give some constructive tips and tricks...

Not a bad list for starters, Here are my thoughts...

Elite

Sword brethren terminator squad
7 Terminators
w. 6 power fists, 5 storm bolters, 1 chain fist, 1 assault cannon, 1heavy flamer
All have the tank hunter special rule
All mounted in a:
Land Raider Crusader
w. searchlights and smoke launchers

If you are going to use tank hunters, i would use the cyclone ML. Also, dont mount them up, they wont be able to shoot, maybe put that 15 man crusader squad in there instead. Rush that mob squad up in to the enemy.

Also, anothor option for this is a Terminator command squad, you can add a Marshal (10LD for all your Black Templars) then 1 terminator sargent, and 3 terminators, 2 which can be upgraded with your cyclone ML, or assault cannos if you want. Plus tank hunter. your storm bolter guys wont benefit from TH like the heavy weapons will, so IMO it wastes 3 points on them, So you could take less of them.

Crusader squad(x2)
7 Crusaders

Personally I run 5 initates, 3 bolters, 1 laz, 1 plasma, rhino w/smoke for 154. This unit will do nothing but sit back and shoot. Maybe rush over to take an objective.

This might be the squad for the LRC. Also, if you do the LRC, drop a neophyte, and mount the EC in here.

Vindicator w. searchlight and smoke launcher

Try Adding power of the machine spirt. By using PoTMS you can move 12" and fire the main cannon. Its a great little trick that only the templars have access to. Codes SM cannot use PoTMS on there vindicators.

I didn't know that! That's awesome! I may consider that when/if I use some BT allies haha.

Under 6th ed you can move 12" and still shoot your weapons (snap shots) so you don't need PotMS anymore (unless you wanna use the full BS, but since it's a blast weapon, not as critical).

Some weapon types, such as Template and Ordnance) or those that have certain special rules, such as Blast, cannot be fired as Snap Shots. It's important to note that any shooting attack that does not use a Ballistic Skill - such as the Necron Monolith's portal of exile - cannot be 'fired' as a Snap Shot.
