I recently played a 6th ed game where we resolved a multiple assault, and I want to pick your brains to find out whether we did it correctly. Initially, his terminators performed a disordered charge on my squad of Guardians and my Avatar. It seems that he rolls to hit and wound against the majority weapon skill and toughness of the engaged models (WS3 & T3), including my Avatar (WS10, T6). So if there are 5 guardians in B2B, and his lightning claws do 10 wounds against T3, I will peel off 5 Guardians and take the 5 remaining saves against my Avatar.

From our reading this seemed like the way to resolve the battle which is far different from 5th. Was this done correctly (resolved as one giant combat of engaged models), or should we have essentially broken it down into 2 smaller combats (Avatar vs Terms & Guardians vs Terms)?

I believe its "broken down" as it were, as in, the models in B2B with the guardians, and those choosing to attack the guardians would attack vs their majority weapon skill, where as the ones in B2B with the avatar and those attacking the avatar would roll against his weapon skill. If the avatar was a character in the guardian unit then it would be different, but as hes a seperate squad he uses his majority WS, which in this case is 10, and the same for toughness, Majority T3 for the guardians, Majority t6 for the avatar, if they were in the same unit then stupid as it is you would roll to wound against t3 as its the majority

If the Avatar were a character within the Guardian unit, you would have been correct

However "multiple combats", p27 and 28, tells you that you direct attacks against the unit you are in base / engaged with. If you are in base with only one, you attack that unit - and so you use majority T and WS as before.

So if there were 5 models in base with the guardians, and 2 in b2b only with the avatar, and 3 models in base with both an avatar and the guardians, then 5 attack against the guardians, 2 against the avatar, and 3 choose

Whoops! We stopped looking after page 27 thinking that the issue wasn't touched on. Now I see that there's a diagram and everything on page 28... Thanks for pointing that out, and sorry I missed it earlier!
