Since 6th has made Big Gunz awesome, I wanted to see which one Greenskins players like to field?

*Kannons cost lest points, and have a reliable STR 8. AP3 doesn't hurt.
*Zzap gun has 2d6 STR, but now has +1 to vehicle damage table rolls (AP2)

Thanks.

Kannons, the game has had so many added randomness to it with random charges, etc etc. You need something you can depend on. With 2D6 str your going to get a 2 when you really need anything but.

The Zzap gun has been terrible before, and not changed at all. As it has a high chance of rolling below average (assuming you hit in the first place), it's all but completely worthless against vehicles - even if it had AP1.

Unless shooting at AV14 vehicles (where the Zzap gun has a little more than 5% chance to out-perform the kannon when shooting only AV14 over the course of five turns) the kannon is always better.

The is no point in paying more points for something that's actually a downgrade compared to the kannon.

Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.

The only reason I even bring up the Zzap gun is the AP2. Orks now have a way of getting a bonus on the vehicle damage table at range. And if terminator spam becomes the meta the Zzap gun will be our answer. I just don't know if these are big enough reasons to rethink the Zzap guns value in 6th.

Otherwise, I agree e Kannon seems all around better.

A couple of editions/codexes ago, the Zzap gun auto-hit its targets (but still with random strength) - then it was worth taking. But now it's only hitting half the time :(

For coolness - Zzapps.

For in-game effectiveness- Kannon

I use Zzapps a lot in my friendly/casual games, as i happen to like them. In tournaments and similar i'd be more likely to take Kannon.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

If you really want AP2 you can get Kanz with KMB in the same slot. You can't march them into the enemy lines anymore, but they still put down a mean shooting.

AP is not a bonus to the damage chart as compared to before. It stayed exactly the same, while the kannon has lost 50% of its chance to destroy a vehicle in one shot, but it's still above the Zzap gun. Considering that glances now actually help you kill vehicles, plus kannons putting out much more glances on average than the Zzap gun, you should really go for kannons.

Assuming our favorite target, the rhino, Zzap gun lazy math tells us that 3d6 will not scratch the paint 50% of the time(as the first 2d6 cap out at 10, it actually happens more often). A kannon will penetrate 50% of the time (4+) and glance 16.66% of the time, giving you a 66.66% chance to take off hull points. This actually gives a full battery of kannons a 12.5% chance to simply blow any AV11 vehicle off the table, assuming you use ammo runts whenever possible and you don't roll any explosions.
