Subject: "Looted" Ork Allies. Will tournaments allow them?

Simple question.
If I come to a tourney with an Ork list, with allies, let's say, Tau, and I have converted my allies to look as if they have actually been looted by the orks, as opposed to being ACTUAL Tau, would I be bringing undue problems with me?
It would still be WYSIWYG, but highly "Orkified".

I see no issues with this. Tourneys would have no issue with Space Marines with Firewarrior heads and Sept logos all over everything. A Rhino is still a Rhino, even if it's painted like a Manta.
I'd hope tourneys wouldn't reject you for playing Chaos Marines as loyalist Marines as long as they were WYSIWG (as in, they'd be spiky, but a bolter is still a bolter, a flamer is still a flamer, etc). If they don't accept looted Ork allies, screw them. They'll probably reject you for not having your models flocked or something, too.

I don't see why it would be an issue... Paint scheme and battle damage or armor look don't impact WYSIWYG. I expect a ton of new COUNTS AS models due to allies rules.
I can fully see Tau armies having I guard or other armies where the models are in tau-looking armor to show a willing partnership on a Tau world.
I can see Enslaved humans as part of an ork army... Also lots of advanced grot rebels using human/tau rules.
As long as the conversion is fair and makes sense, I am sure people will be cool with it.

I think that sounds awesome, and would look much better on the table than having regular tau vehicles/troops as your allies. I plan on taking some IG allies for my orks and doing the same thing, modeling them as blood axes but using the IG rules. In order to make sure everything stands out plainly for my opponent, the blood axes will be converted and painted differently than the rest of my orks.

Thanks all.
This makes doing something like looting a trio of Russes even more fun, as I can play them as IG Russes or Looted Wagons.

As a painting judge I would probably give you extra points for the creativity, and then ask you how you did it so I can get some ideas for my own orks.

I think you would need something to distinguish a T4shoota Ork boy from a T3Lasgun Ork Iguard. (Like a Gorkamorka Yoof, 2nd edition ork or even rebel grot.) If you simply plopped down shoota boyz and told me they were I guard regardless of paint scheme, people would have issues. Also, If someone took ' MEQ' allies in an ork army, I would expect some extreme effort to be made to make a clear AV3+ STR4 ork opposed to a 'boy' plopped down and called a khorne berserker.
This is where I think we are going to begin having troubles when people are Proxying a Killa Kan as a broadside instead of actually converting a broadside.
But Looted imperial tanks are usually good regardless. My 3rd edition looted basilisk will be making a comeback as soon as I get an HQ and Troop worked out.

How about a Killa Kan with two huge Railguns mounted where it's arms should be? Cause that's actually why I started the topic. I'm building them tonight. The Kans already have magnets in their should sockets.

My only issue is that Broadsides have toughness and wounds while Kans have armor value. It could get confusing for some opponents.

I'd be OK with that, especially if you model it well and iclude all the important Tau equipment

As long as it has the right weapons you should be fine.
Another factor would be if you have Killa Kans in the army.

Expect some grief along the lines of "how did their BS go up?" and such. It is supposed to be actual tau in there.
Just come up with a snazzy response like "the big Mek said this is what Target Lock does now" and you'll be fine.
Also, I'd make them really stand out to help avoid confusion.

Grots are BS3!
Yeah, I'm planning on making sure it's an obvious loot.
Either that, or pick up the broadsides and loot them proper.
It's just so damn expensive.

I was thinking having them packing lasguns and Kromlech Afrika Korps ork heads. Kromlech also has an orky "commissar" in the works that could make a nice HQ for my Blood Axe contingent.

Personally I would love to face a nice unified them force like that. Makes me sad, I can't ally my 'nids. Just something about grot's "Steering" a Carnifex or "riding" a Mawloc ala' Dune makes me giggle.

I've got no problem with it as a TO, and have encouraged several ork players to do the same thing. It's fun, and fits the theme
As a player: I'm so taking an Ork bommer and a FW vendetta conversion kit and giving my grots a looted vendetta.) Might put a squad inside if I can find some of the Gorga Morka humies that wannabe orks.)

I think GW really missed the boat with Tyranids and allies. Yes, the hive mind sees everything as food, but that doesn't mean other armies wouldn't drive opponents towards the bugs that they knew were there, or something along those lines.
The easiest thing they could have done was to have Tyranids able to ally with... other Tyranids. If you aren't playing 2k+ with double force org, this would at least let you have that extra Elite slot that bugs seem to always want.
As for the Orks and allies, I would love to see some Tau Crisis or Broadside suits with the chest cavity hollowed out and a Grot sitting there with wires and levers all around him. It would also be cool to have a snow theme and the Grots using upside down Drones as snow sleds. That's what I always thought they looked like!

That is fine when you are looking at an army but you really need to make them really stand out. You do not want just a bunch of orks and some are tau and some are orks. Your opponent needs to easily tell them apart.

Right, that's what I meant! I didn't mean orks with just tau rifles... but, a broadside with a grot piloting it could be awesome looking and still clearly be a broadside, for example.
