Subject: Captain Galenus, Ultramarines 5th Company Proposed Profile (Model Pics)
|
 |
Stalwart Ultramarine Tactical Marine
|
Hey guys! I play Ultramarines 5th Company, and now that I've finished my new model (pics are attached), and with the new edition, more than ever I want to have a reasonable profile for my commander, since standard captains aren't very competitive. I can use Sicarius' profile for him too, but I would like him to have his own. So, here is my initial take!
Captain Galenus, Commander of the Ultramarines 5th Company, Master of the Marches, Warden of the Eastern Fringe................................................................................................185 Points
Background
Captain Galenus is one of the most venerable members of the Ultramarines, surpassed in age only by the likes of the eldest members of the Chapter Council. He has climbed the chain of command over the centuries of endless war. He was an exemplar of everything an Ultramarine stands for. Honor. Valor. Loyalty. Charisma. Tactical Mastery. He was promoted to the 1st Company, where he served with distinction for several decades. His finest years, he mastered the art of war with some of the greatest heroes the chapter has ever known. His bond with his brothers was stronger than anyone could ever know. Years later, through a consensus of his superiors, he was recommended and assigned to the Deathwatch. Here, he honed his skills against some of the deadliest Xenos the Imperium has ever seen. After many years, he had the distinction of surviving the entirety of his service. However, his return was two years after the end of the Tyrranic Wars. His brothers, the venerable members of the 1st company who were the closest companions he ever had, every single one was slain in the Northern Fortress on Macragge. Galenus was a Space Marine, psycho-trained to hate every enemy of the Imperium. It pushed him. It made him the demi-god of war that a space marine was supposed to be. He had fought the Xenos extensively for many years during his service on his Killteam; hate for the Xenos was nothing new. This however, was a different kind of hate. It consumed him. For half a year he secluded himself in the veteran fortress on Macragge. When he emerged, he was a shell of the being he used to be. Gone was the charismatic, inspiring Ultramarine that basked in the glory of past campaigns with his brothers. Words held much less value to him now, as nothing could describe the hate he felt for the alien. Being one of the few veterans left after such a catastrophe, he was quickly promoted to the position of 5th Company Captain after the death of Captain Rhidae. Now captain of the "Wardens of the Eastern Fringe", he found purpose. With raids being constantly made by the witch Eldar and their darker twins, the encroachment of the hive fleet Behemoth, the recurring Waaaaaagh!s of Octavius and Charadon, and especially the growing empire of the upstart Tau, he found ways to sate his hunger. Though slightly unconventional at times, he has lead the 5th company through many campaigns, and chooses to inspire his men through personal valor. Though still possessing all the tactical mastery of the Codex Astartes that an Ultramarine captain must, he leads through action. His voice, rendered mechanical and toneless by the synthetic voice box that replaced his torn out windpipe, still rallies the 5th Company, simply around hate rather than hope. Indeed, his organic body is mostly gone. Centuries of grizzly close combat with some of the most fearsome creatures in the Milky Way has had its toll. His left leg cleaved off by a Ork Power Klaw, his right leg rendered useless due to the foul toxins of the Eldar's twisted cousins; everything below his waistline is mechanical. Most of his intestinal tract, as well a kidney, were replaced after being rended by a Genestealer. The majority of his right arm has been crippled from a Tau Pulse Carbine. He has been pronounced dead 8 times. However, none of his implants have reduced his physical capacity for war, and have, if anything, made him much more immune to stresses of battle. He now continues to purge the alien from the Imperium, fueling his endless need for vengeance.

Special Rules
Purge the Alien - The majority of Galenus' long service has been spent destroying the foul Xenos of the universe, and as of such, he has amassed a wealth of knowledge of their combat styles, as well as their weaknesses. Captain Galenus counts as having the Preferred Enemy universal special rule against any unit from Codex: Eldar, Dark Eldar, Orks, Tyranids, and Tau. His hatred is endless, and he never tires. Galenus counts as having the Crusader universal special rule, as well as the Hatred universal special rule against any unit from the aforementioned codices. Galenus will take any chance to personally slaughter these foul creatures, especially in close combat, even if this is not the most tactically sound option. When fighting any unit in Assualt from the aforementioned Codices, Galenus replaces the Combat Tactics special rule with the Stubborn special rule for himself, as well as any unit that he is attached to. Also, if a character from the aforementioned Codices issues a challenge that Galenus can accept, he must do so.
A Body That Does Not Yield- Almost more machine than man, Galenus' body grants him many advantages. Galenus counts as having the Feel No Pain universal special rule. Also, any Poisoned attacks made against Galenus have a -1 modifier to wound rolls.
Combat Tactics
And They Shall Know No Fear
Wargear
Caelum Ira- This blade saw service throughout the Scouring, and was the death of many a great Champion of the foul powers of Chaos. It is a Relic Blade.
Plasma Pistol
Digital Weapons
Iron Halo
Power Armor
Frag and Krak Grenades
What do you guys think? Don't hate on the fluff, bro. But compliments, criticism, and questions are welcome! Especially regarding the point cost. Thanks!

Road-Raging Blood Angel Biker

I like it.
But. . .
maybe T5, the Iron Halo, and Feel No Pain could make him a tad too tough, but I wouldn't mind playing against him,
nice model too, well done

in Inquisitor, a Space Marine can take a krak grenade, pull out the pin, eat the grenade, throw the pin, and the thrown pin will actually kill a normal man, whereas the Space Marine won't even have indigestion. This has actually happened in a game. Hell, a marine can throw his bolt shells and do more damage than by shooting his boltgun |

No T5, rest seems fine. 155pts for the wargear, plus 30pts for Hatred, PE, Crusader and FnP is plenty. In fact, I'd go with 195pts, seeing as its a custom character and I've always believed they should have a sort of tax to ensure they're not broken.
But definitely not T5, FnP is plenty to represent his bionics and what-not.

Just a question, if he hates aliens, is there any specific reason that he doesn't have PE: Necrons?

In addition to lowering his Toughness back to 4, remove the poison thing. There's no need for modifiers like that.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.
