It's been a while since I collected (and finished painting!) a 40K army and when the whispers of 6th Edition began back in January, I decided now was an opportune time to return to the 41st Millenium. After a bit of musing, I settled on Raven Guard as my chosen force, mainly because Space Marines are easy to pick up on ebay and also black seemed like a straightforward colour scheme.

After six months of collecting and modelling, here's what I have so far...

1 Captain
10 Tactical Marines (with Plasma Gun and Heavy Bolter)
5 Combat Scouts
5 Sniper Scouts
1 Land Speeder Storm

The Tactical Marine box set was another factor in my decision to collect a Space Marine army. This kit is getting on for 14 years old now and yet hasn't dated in the slightest. With all the plastic bits that have come out since, it is now more convertible than ever and it's incredible easy to add some of the heavy weapons and other assorted parts from other kits. These 5 guys form the first part of the squad. I've done a small bit of converting here with one brother marine about to throw a grenade and another has drawn his bolt pistol and combat knife ready to receive an assault.

The Captain you will no doubt recognise from AoBR. I needed an HQ choice and he was lying around in my scraps box. To avoid him being just another AoBR figure, I've added a power fist from the Assault Squad sprue and also a tyranid skull, perhaps indicating a familiar enemy.

I loved the Land Speeder Storm when it was first released and having finally bought one, I really enjoyed putting it together too. I'm using it as a transport for my objective grabbing Combat Scouts which presented a small problem. My scouts are all armed with bolt pistols and combat knives, but the scouts in the Storm kit only have bolt guns. This irritated me, because I wanted it to look like they were the same guys, so I bought some spare scout arms from ebay and with a bit of cutting and trimming managed to "re-arm" them Only a minor change, but worth the effort in my eyes.
