Hey there, I'm just wondering what is your take on counting wounds caused during an Overwatch for the purposes of Assault Results.

As the Overwatch takes place in the Charge sub phase and happens whether or not a successful charge and assault occurs I'm inclined to think not. I think this is the case also by the fact that the assault results section says to include all wounds from the Fight sub phase however it does also finish with "...and all other factors"

Would the Overwatch be counted as another factor or does that really just apply to events in the Fight sub phase?

By that same token does the Lightning Field wargear item for Necron Crypteks effect occur during the Charge or Fight sub phase? The wargear entry states that it activates when a unit successfully charges a Cryptek with this wargear which would be the Charge sub phase as the Fight sub phase doesn't begin until the controlling player has finished with all his charges correct?

I'm not sure if I'm overcomplicating or outright misinterpreting rules here but as I'm using the Lightning Field wargear a lot I want to get this one right.

They are both valid questions. As far as I know, overwatch dosent count for combat rez. By that token, I also belive that the lightning field occurs after the charge sub phase but before the combat begins as it only trips on a successfull charge.

That's how I'd like to play it but what is catching me is that the wording of Lightning Field says
"When an enemy unit successfully moves into assault with the Cryptek, the assaulting unit immediately..."
which I'd have to say is when the assaulter's make contact with the Cryptek (Or his squad).

But of course you might not have moved into assault until the Charge phase completely ends.

The other problem I have is if you had two separate units with Lightning Fields, both charged in the same charge sub phase. It makes more sense to me to resolve them both when the assaulting unit makes contact then it does rolling for both at the start of the Fight Sub phase and then continuing on with the first assault.

Just a thought along those lines. What happens when a unit charges the cryptek squad, makes b2b with one model, then that model is killed by the lightning field? Does combat end right there, or does everyone pile in on their init?

It looks like "hey is the combat over?" checks only occur after the initiative step pile-ins...

As it occurs "when making contact" it has to occur in the charge sub phase

Anything outside of the fight sub phase does not count for combat resolution
