There seems to me to be an inconsistency in 6th Ed. between the treatment given to blasts and templates.

Blasts hit the target unit a number of times equal to the number of models under the marker. Wounds are allocated as normal (p33)

Template weapons hit any MODEL under the template (p55)

This seems to imply that a template can take a bite out of the middle of a unit (possibly forcing coherency moves next turn), while blasts do not.

What do people think of this reading? Am I missing something?

Yes, the part where templates then follow the normal rules for allocating wounds.

Unless the blast is barrage. "when determining Wound allocation, always assume the shot is coming from the centere of the blast marker" (BRB:34)

There is also a case the enemy can set up for you with focus fire and cover If you can focus fire them out of coherency then you get your forced move.

The best armor is not being hit, achieved by range, stealth, or striking first.

Or the blast scatters.

Apparently, if the blast scatters it can hit models out of LoS, if the entire unit is out of LoS.
If you can see part of the unit, you can't hit the models that are out of LoS.

huh??

No no no

A scattering blast may hit targets out of LOS, you may however NOT target a unit outside LOS unless it also has the Barrage rule.

A scattering Blast may also hit and resolve damage against a second unit outside LOS that was not initially targeted.

If you can see part of the unit you must first resolve hits according to the normal wound allocation, however: if the unit targeted has models outside of LOS that are hit by a blast these are resolved last. first you resolve all direct fire hits. if there are models left in LOS then the hits from the blast [that scattered and hit models outside LOS] are resolved against the models in LOS as per the normal wound allocation rules. If there are no models left in LOS then the hits from the blast [that scattered and hit models outside LOS] are resolved against the models outside LOS per the normal wound allocation rules. [Disregarding the fact that they are outside LOS]

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.
