Subject: Wound allocation, Look out Sir!, and focus fire.

Recently, an article aired on BoLS depicting the following scenario: A unit of harlies with a farseer being marched around by a leading model, a DE archon with flickerfield.
It was claimed that the 2++ reroll would solve all problems and that if failed, one of the harlies could simply jump in the way of the shot. Makes sense. What doesn't make sense is the claim that it can't be stopped.
Aside from 40k not being Gettysburg and people getting shots off on the sides of units, wouldn't focus fire end those convenient Look out, Sir! rolls? Focus firing the squad choosing 'no cover save' would seem to exclude/ignore the harlies in terms of combat, no?

Riddle me this: what has four sides, moves twelve inches, and moved fourteen?

I don't think you can allocate LOS after a failed save. Weight of fire will bring that flicker field down, even with a reroll.

LOS can only be taken after saves if the unit all has the same saves. A unit of Harlies, Farseer and Archon with Shadowfield is not a unit of the same saves.

Yes, although they can still LOS, even if you focus fire.

First off, Lookout Sir! is rolled for after wound allocation but before any saves are taken [In the case of Mixed Saves BRB Pg 15+16] so you can't soak wounds like that. if the archon takes his save then he also suffers the wound if he fails.
Secondly you cannot focus fire on the Archon, he is part of the unit and thus benefits from the Shadowseer's Veil of Tears because of having the same cover save as the unit itself. [No different Saves: No focus fire!]
Edit: clarifications in brackets.

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.

Also it's a bit iffy if you can focus fire on a unit in the open that only has a CS because of shrouded and/or stealth since the rules on pg 18-19 BRB makes reference to ''Units partially in cover'' and not ''units with a coversave''.
But that might be an issue for a new thread.
