So a blood raging Chaos Dreadnought has to move and if possible charge the closest enemy unit, if not run, and a fire frenzy dread has to shoot the closest model.

An Ally of convenience is treated as a enemy model except you cannot charge or shoot it.

So does that mean I can baby sit my chaos dreads with guardsmen? so they either chase after the guardsmen (never charging due to ally of convenience) when I roll the blood rage, shoot the guardsmen??? (i assume here codex trumps rule book as you can shoot your own models with fire frenzy) or the act in a boring manner, i.e. sane

Also what happens when I put dark eldar next to the dread as they are the desperate ally... do I do the sanity check first or the stare at the desperate ally check first... and what happens if I get fire / blood frenzy and the do nothing for a turn (from the desperate ally)???

damn you gamesworkshop for making one of chaos most fun crazy things more confusing

Tricky one, especially since this was not covered in the FAQ.

Firing Frenzy is a nobrainer, '' /..must pivot on the spot towards the closest visable unit (friend or foe) and fire all it's weapons against it - twice!../"

Blood Rage is quite clear. "-In the movementphase the chaos dreadnought must move as fast as possible towards the nearest enemy. /..../ ..must then assult the enemy in the Assult phase, if able."

So if the Desperate/ Allies of Convenience are the closest unit to the Dreadnought it must move towards them, run if it is out of chargerange and attempt to charge. Since it may not charge because of the allies rules the intent will be declared but the attempt will fail, resulting in no assult move being rolled for. Please note that this might trigger a One Eye Open -roll (BRB pg.112).

I have a little hobby-thread going in the P&M section. Some say it's the best blog on Dakka, some don't agree, most belive it would be better if I finished at least one project some time this century and not just kept starting new ones.
Check it out, you just might like it.
