Subject: All Jump Army DoA Deployment on GT 1 possible -confused

hi there,
just played a little 500 points game fielding a jump army.
i wanted to bring down all my units via deep strike on gt1 , friend of mine said no because on page 36 arriving via deep strike only works as reserve rules states on p124 : i.e. starting with gt2 they might come in.
also my 50% of jump units had to leapfrog in on gt1, because they don´t have to enter via deep strike -it´s a possibility.
is the jump army dead?

You can only reserve 50% of your units now, so you can not hold all of your jump infantry in reserve. Indeed if you want to DS in, you must reserve that unit that is going to Deep Strike. I would not say it is dead, it is just transformed a bit, as you have to deploy some things.

Not at all. You just can't hold everything in reserve now. No reserve = no DS.

Only some special instances like Drop Pods and Daemon assault waves arrive from reserves on game turn 1.
Jump Pack equipped Assault marines are not eligible to do so, they may only start coming in from turn two, and all of your reserves may deep strike, but only half your army may be reserved.

allright, but then i can´t any longer deep strike with say 50% of jumppack assault marines on gt1. that correct?
i have to bring them in via table deployment zones. the other 50% can DS after the corresponding roll of activation.

You never could, even last edition your deep striking assault marines had to wait for turn 2

You have never been able to DS with jumpackers on turn 1. If you've been doing so in 5ed or 6ed then you were cheating/grossly mistaken/misinformed.
Must deploy half your army that doesn't have to go in reserve before the game begins.
In fact, if at the end of a game turn you have no units left on the table then you lose, regardless of whether you have stuff in reserve or not so even if you had the option to go all in reserve you'd be foolish to do so.
Also fyi, GT is synonymous with grand tournament, not game turn. Threw me off a bit.
Edited for lack of specificity
