Really? They had to nerf that into the ground as well?

Correct. Monstrous Creatures attack at AP2 regardless of whether they "Smash" (2x str and half their normal attacks). Making them especially awesome this edition, since AP2 is now +1 on the vehicle damage chart.

Which equates pretty much to rolling without a modifier on the old vehicle damage table, it's not actually a buff to AP2, it's a nerf to AP3 or worse.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

In the context of the edition, though, it makes them superior tank hunters to most. They don't perform in the same way as the last edition, sure, but it's key to start factoring things in terms of their role in this edition. Otherwise it's just depressing.

Bear in mind vehicles took a massive hit in being easy to glance to death (hell, 'crons are laughing so hard at vehicle spam lists right now) so the damage table had to be more forgiving else we'd be back to 4th ed's death traps on wheels/tracks.

Well, you also have to consider that a S6 MC before had to roll a 4 on his 2d6 to penetrate armor 10, and there was a chance of failing that, albeit a small chance. But now he auto penetrates with his S10 Smash attack.

Not to mention the fun of warp speed tyrants smashing paladins.

I have used smash attacks on a bastion with a trygon prime. Sure he only had 4 attacks as opposed to 7 on the charge, but with the smash ability, they were coming in at str 10 with + 2 on the damage chart.

The thing went down in a crumpled mess, and killed all the long fangs inside. The rest on the battlement, jumped to their deaths. 2 survived.

Nids are fine.
