Here's an issue I've come across. I'm trying to figure out whether the gun emplacements that are part of a building (in this case a bastion) can be targeted separately from the building. On the one hand, you can target the gun emplacements that are listed in the Battlefield Debris section. But Bastions are proper buildings as opposed to Battlefield Debris, and the Bastion has a damage table on which about half the results indicate a destroyed weapon in addition to other effects. This leads me to believe that you are not meant to be able to target the various emplaced weapons on a Bastion or Fortress of Redemption, but that you must instead breach the armor of the building to take them out.

This is going to be a big issue since a Bastion or other fortification is the best option many armies have for taking down flyers. If you can snipe the Quad Cannon off the top of the Bastion without having to get through AV14, it would seem too easy to deny that Skyfire weapon the chance to shoot.

The gun does not have a statline, that I can find, so no you cannot "snipe" the cannon from the top

The Gun Emplacement which is an upgrade on top of the normal guns the bastion holds (ie the 4 emplaced heavy bolters) has a weapon profile on pg 105 (T7, W2 & SV3+) and it does say it can be shot at and attacked in close combat, the battlements which is where the gun emplacement would be located (roof of the building) does say you can shoot units on top on this and they would have to rely on their normal save or a cover save, due to these i believe it could be shot at if in LOS.

So the 4 heavy bolters or equivalent have to use the damage table as they dont have a profile and are counted as part of the building, the upgrade gun emplacement that you would buy for the skyfire/interceptor and placed on the battlement has the rules that it can be shot at and would use its own save or a cover save until its second wound is lost and then its destroyed, hope that makes sense.

Strangely enough, the book makes a pretty clear distinction between an Emplaced Gun, and a Gun Emplacement.

I just want to point out the rules also state that if a building is unoccupied. (pg 93). that one cannot shoot or assault it.

Now the question is the weapons on it that fire automatticly, dose the bulding have to be occupied?

Opps forgot about the cant shot part (edit)

There is a distinct entry for "Gun Emplacement" in with battlefield debris (BRB pg 105). Then the Bastion's upgrade is listed as "Gun Emplacement with..." (BRB pg 116). Also we are told that the Bastion and Fortress's weapons (including the Icarus Las-cannons on each) are "Emplaced Weapons" (BRB pg 97). By a strict "Rules are rules and BoT (Boxes of Text) are not rules" I suppose that big gun on the bastion IS a "Gun Emplacement" on a battlement, which is on top of the building. You could make an argument that the "Gun Emplacement" statline from pg.105 applies, though you would more likely have to fire are the unit on the battlement who was operating the gun.

Locally only our IG player feels like the bastion SHOULD require two full units to fire all the guns on it, in the end we treat the roof guns as "Emplaced Weapons" (as per pg 97) along with the Heavy Bolters. Makes no difference to me, Gretchin in the bastion, Big Gunz on the battlements, some lucky grot is going to town on that quad-gun no matter what.

Take the typical Imperial Bastion, this building has to be occupied to shoot the emplaced 4 heavy bolters as per the Emplaced Weapons rules and can either fire them manually with the occupying models BS and at any target or automated with a BS of 2 and always at the nearest enemy in LOS.
The Gun Emplacement on the battlement of the bastion also needs a model in base contact to fire it instead of its own weapon as it doesnt say to use the emplaced weapon rules for this, should it use the interceptor ability it the means the model who fired will not be able to fire again in its shooting phase.
An unoccupied building can not be shot at directly or assaulted, however even if the Gun Emplacement were on the battlements of an unoccupied building it has its own rules that it can be shot at directly.

Nit: the weapon can't be used in the next shooting phase, but the model can use its own weapons.

Just making sure you were awake and paying attention (coughs alittle and moves on to something else) lol.

Glad that is the case as i plan to use a bastion soon and the more gauss i can pump out the better even if it is just one more warrior, it all adds up.
