I want a chaos daemon army, necron army, and a tyranid army. Do i just buy the three armies and thats it or do i have to buy other stuffs in order to play? like a map board etc.?

How much extra would the paint sprays, cutting tools, super clue cost etc. ? if i made a mistake on a model with the sprays, is the color replaceable? I'll mostly just paint them the same as the game workshop models, especially the necrons.

Does game workshop sell painted models? if not do they sell models that are already assemble so all i need to do is paint them?

If there is anything else i need to need to know, please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Each army requires a Codex, a book that contains the specific rules for that army. I would suggest starting with one army before buying any more, an army is quite an investment. Map boards are not required, any large flat surface will do.

When buying tool, steer clear of the ones GW makes, they tend to be over priced and any brand of tool will do. If you make a mistake painting, you can always repaint them. There are a lot of guides on the web for how to remove paint from models.

All models are unassembled and unpainted.

First you need the Rule Book $75, them the Codex for each army ($33 each), model for a starting army ($200+ each), no the model do not come painted or put togather. You will need to cut them of the spure, file and trim the parts, glue them togather, prime (spray paint is cheap at Walmart and modeling tools, don't buy them from GW), and then paint them, plus basing it nice too. Then for the table you will need a 6x4 table (this is standard size) and Terrain (you can make you own, buy it, or when starting use stuff laying around the house.

Miniature Table Top gaming is fun but involved, I suggest you find a good store or club and ask question there. Lastly, there are some great games not made by GW, some much easier on the wallet, other just as pricey, so don't fall into the GW is the Hobby trap.

Ohh... and most of all have fun, it a social game always remember that.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

When buying paints and tools shop around first.

GW paints are fine and all but are pricey. Look through the pinting and modeling forums and get some tips.

Spray paint from wal-mart is perfect for GW models. 97cents a can and you can spray about 12 sprues per can.

When buying your army don't buy the whole thing at once. You'll put some together and then realize the huge project you've made for yourself.

Build your units one at a time. Paint one then buy one, paint one then buy one.

That way if you find that you don't like a certain unit, you haven't bought a whole squad/transport/upgrades for it yet.

A few tips here:

People generally enjoy playing against a painted army even if it isn't painted all that well. GW guildlines for "completed model" are 3 colors (not including a basecoat) and "based".

Based just means they have sand or something glued to the actual bases surface.

Necrons can be a bit boring to paint as they all have a basic structure with lots of minor details.

Tyranids are much the same.

Daemons however have the potential for all manner of colors.

In my case I'm currently painting my Orks, my roommates Daemons and my friends Blood Angels.

I'm so sick and tired of painting red! I honestly am starting to hate BA just because of this fact.

The Daemons are fun but require so many colors I had to buy alot of paints I'll never use again.

My Orks are fun but there is so much detail that it's slowing down my whole painting method.

Keep things like this in mind hen collecting an army.

BTW you'll also need dice, tapemeasurer, pad of paper pen, terrain, and a method of transporting your models.

I have a couple pieces of advice for a new player:

1) Know your scene. Find a club or game store, or have a group of friends that plays. Find out what they play. If you buy into 40k, and everyone in town plays Warmahordes or Fantasy, you will have a shelf full of very expensive paperweights. You may prefer how 40k looks, but tabletop miniature gaming is a social activity, which takes two to play.

2) Do one thing at a time. Start with one of the armies you want to start, and work on building it up. Three 500 point armies are less useful than one 1500pt army. You get to play fewer cool units at one time, have fewer options when writing a list, and cannot afford some of the more expensive units. You are also less likely to get games, as other people decide that they would rather play bigger games with more variety in their army. Finally on this point, having watched the local gaming scene at my old shop grow from two guys to around a dozen, the guys who played the most, and had the most fun, where the guys who hit around 2000 points, probably because their armies didn't stagnate. Other players would periodically lose interest in the game. In short, DO ONE THING AT A TIME!

In other words, be smart when you start, and have fun!

A good army will range in the price of $300-600 each btw

Some of the more expensive armies (IG and Orkz) can easily hit $500-1000

I would research one army and see if you like it. Talk to people who play the game and see if they can help you. Spray painting doesn't go wrong as it dries in a few hours so as long as you don't spray something for over 3 or 4 secs, those will be fine. 5 times and I got a smooth finish each time.

You cannot get assembled or prepainted however if you are lazy then you can pay someone to paint them (buypainted.com)

You need (for a standard game 1 hour long)

A playing area 4 feet by 4 feet (500 point battle)
Templates
2 armies of roughly equal point value
Dice
Something to measure distance
Rulebook
Codexes

On hobby materials you would spend about 100 - 150 dollars depending on how good you want your models. If you want perfect, unblemished models, you will have to buy lots of things to clean up your models.

Hopefully all this should clear everything up for you!

Ebay is your friend if you want pre-painted and assembled models, there are always "my wife is making me quit" auctions for most armies out there.
Just search for: Tyranid army, Necron Army, and Daemon army to see what's available. A quick search and I found a few(none of these are mine and I cannot vouch for the sellers):

Tyranid:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tyranid-army-lot-of-current-ed-figures-/120950289288?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2932f388
Necron:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Necron-BIG-Army-LOT-/160847303988?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25733f1534
there are lots more but I am not going to try and link all of them.

Games generally take about 90 minutes+ to play and get faster as you and your opponents learn the game.

you may want to check on forums for the respective factions to find out what models are good and bad for each army:
For general questions or if you do not want to check out the site the Dakka Dakka forums have great answers.
For nids specifically:
http://thetyranidhive.proboards.com/index.cgi
For Necrons specifically:
http://necrontyronline.freeforums.org/index.php

what you will need to get to play:
A 4'x4' or 4'x6 flat surface to play on
The Codex for your specific army
The 6th edition rulebook
Dice(lots of d6 and a scatter die)
A set of templates and blast markers
Terrain(either kits or scratch built)

I would recommend just picking one army to start with as they can be a fairly large investment, if their are players in the area who would let you use their models to try an army out you might want to play, try that before buying any models, if not see if people in your area would be ok with you using proxies for a few games till you see what models you want and what army you like best.

Just what ive found

-go to a womens beauty store, they sell a cuticle trimmer, that works for clipping models off sprues

-now that all models are plastic or resin i use crazy glue and it works great. fairly cheap too.

-ebay is good for both assembled and painted models but its very, very expensive for pro paint jobs.

Definitely stay away from pro-painted(unless your ready to drop a couple grand for your army), it adds some shopping around time but you can find some nice looking not pro painted armies on ebay for a reasonable price.
