Subject: Need feedback for Soviet Tankovy list LW

I've convinced another fellow player to join my humble effort of starting historical wargames in the midst of WFB/40K environment. Having decided to pick Soviets and the Tank Company for easier start, I tried to put together simple generic list from V3. My idea was to take a combined arms and different options, including air support, so we could learn the mechanics faster. But given my limited knowledge of strenghts and weaknesses of Soviet lists, I wanted to ask for come C&C of the list which I bashed together on easyarmy:
Tankovy Batalon HQ T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola
Tankovy Company 5 T-34/85 obr 1943
Tankovy Company 5 T-34/85 obr 1943
Weapons Companies
Motostrelkovy Company Cmd SMG team 14 SMG teams
Divisional Support
Guards Rocket Mortar Battalion Cmd Rifle team Observer Rifle team Truck 4 BM-13 Katyusha
Air Support Priority Air Support Il-2 Shturmovik
It is 1535 points now. Have I done something extremely wrong? Are the mounted escort or komissars necessary, or maybe he needs more tanks?
We will be using Zvezda and PSC stuff mainly with BF for infantry options (probably).

Add a komissar team, and Maskhim machine guns to the weapons companies. I would recommend that you tank more tanks. Besides that it seems fine, and you are on the right path. The strength of the Soviets is their numbers. They have masses of troops. Play wise think of the Soviets as similar to Imperial Guard. Just note that if you use third party models you can't play in any BF tournaments..

Thanks! Frankly, we don't care about BF tournaments, since we can't even buy any 1:100 stuff here, not speaking about any "official" gaming stores with BF stuff or their tournaments. So, we don't give a .... about their policies
Is there any added value in mixing different types of T34 within the same platoon?

There are no official BF stores, and as for mixing tank platoons, it depends. It is good in that allocate the hits to crappy tanks. But, with that being said I have no experience running Soviets/mixed tank platoons.

I can help you alot. i help my brother build a nice tnk company for the Soviets under a 150$
First i would dump the BAttle front infantry and buy the PSc Soviet sets.Weaponns and Infantry sets plus stnds. So this wy you will have lot of tank riders.
I would buy a Blocking detacment, from BAttlefront the vlisly set works great.
Kv 1 s from From ZVEZDA not the best tank but great for taking shots away from the main colum.
Stormviks ZVEZDA you can not beat Flying tank. and last you will need some AA ,DO not wast your time and money on the DSHK trucks, Buy the quad 50 cal vehicles.BAttle front ones are not that bad priced at 11$ or you can but the Forged in Battle ones they cost roughly 22$ but are Americn but the crew are seperate so i would just not add them.

Here is the final list I made for Tankovy when I was going to start Russians for what its worth:
Tankovy Batalon HQ
1 T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 85
Combat Companies
Tankovy Company
5 T-34 obr 1942 with Cupola, 4 T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 530
Tankovy Company
5 T-34 obr 1942 with Cupola, 5 T-34/85 obr 1943 with Cupola= 585
Divisional Support
Guards Heavy Tank Company
3 KV-1s= 255
Tank Killer Company
5 SU-100= 390
Heavy Mortar Company
6 120-PM-38 mortar=145
Points:1990
Some advice that I recived for Tankovy before I revised the list was to take the max T-34s.

Thanks Seric, but what is the point of taking Heavy Mortar Company - it does not have access to smoke - at least my easyarmy list says so. The rest is pretty clear, althouth we'll try to squeeze some Air Support for additional fun.

You are right that they don't have smoke, there are a few reasons I chose them over air power:
They were cheaper at 130 pts. so they fit into my list better (I would have had to drop a T34 for aircraft).
I feel they are more reliable than aircraft (this is just my experience with how my opponents aircraft do, I have never used them).
they get to reroll failed to hit rolls or use a double wide template because they have 6 guns.
and I like artillery a lot
My Bersaglieri have 2 artillery batteries in all games down to 1250 pts., and at 2000 pts., I even have heavy mortars thrown in. My artillery has won me a lot of defensive games were half my army is in reserve by holding onto the objectives.

Oh, I see - this is rather the gaming preference, so with cheap alternative minis, my friend can actually try both to see what works better for him. This list is based on Red Bear or is this generic V3 list?

It is from the generic list. It is always good to have different options for your army, it can make your army more fun to play if you don't always have the exact same list.

The Soviet 82 BM 41 Mortar is also really good, dirt cheap at 95 points and you get 12 FP 3+ shots to dig infantry out.
Also, one of the most important unit to have for a tank army is Recon, both to deny good ambush spots and to lift GtG to dig out infantry.
Motostrelkovy is okay, but I think Tank Rider company or Rota Razvedki would be better. (Dont remember if they are in the forces book)
Also get more T-34/85s, 11 at 1535 you would have about as many tanks as Germans, not a good thing when you are trained.
