Firstly, I have only been collecting 40k for a few months, so if I am asking a stupid question please be nice

As most Tau players will know, Broadsides and Pathfinders have been discontinued, they aren't on the GW site anymore. I wanted to know what this means for my army lists, as they previously included broadside teams, which I haven't brought yet and now won't be able to. I know Tau are considered by many in need of an update, so would you recommend waiting for that update, eg a new codex, or just buying more old units, which could also be removed soon? Additionally, battlesuits are my favorite type of unit in the Tau army and are the main reason I picked them, so I really don't want to buy an army full of fast attack and tanks when there will be more appealing options in a few months.

Note: I am on around 1000pts now, so I can still play small scale games fine with my current army.

They are coming back, just either a resculpt or finecast.

The old metal models are getting redone in Finecast... (unfortunately)

Look on GW website under advanced orders. They replaced the old metal models with finecast. I'm really excited about the xv15 stealthsuits I love the model but didnt want to get them in metal( same with broadsides) ( and the price for finecast XV15's made my day!)

Hiding in a dark alley with a sharp knife!

Actually, they are not coming back.

Gw is quietly removing the Tau models from their stores and future releases will have no mention of the race at all. It will be like they existed in the first place. All questions as to "what happened to the Tau" will either be ignored or answered in a rude and dismissive manner. About seven years from now a senior member of the design studio will type up a forum post in which he explains that, being an Anime influenced army, Tau were a bad idea (a "joke race" in fact) and not a good fit for the current "grimdark" 40k setting. As no one at the studio would come up with an idea to "fix" the Tau, they were simply removed. In anout 15 years time, after four more editions of 40k have passed by, there will be a single sentence in some of the fluff that might give the old Tau players a glimmer of hope, but in reality will have been a mean spirite "inside joke" by one of the writers.

The Tau are dead! Get over it!

Broadsides, Commander and now sheild drones are Finecast upgrade kits for the XV8 and gun drone kits respectively. Pathfinders are now available in finecast Also of not for Tau is the old XV15 stealth suits are now in a 3 model fine cast unit and a finecast xv15 character model are available.

As an side when did the xV25's get the markerlight drone Pretty sure mine had a gun drone.

Totally missed your post when I posted. But yeah 20 bucks for a 3 man squad of fine cast. Looks like a mail order only though. Did you notice the fact that then upgrade spruces are not being marked as finecast despite being finecast .

The price of pathfinders and XV15s aren't too bad.
The presence of Aun'va and Shadowsun help to cement their place in the next edition of the codex, though Farsight didn't get his metal bits redone for some reason...

Well if they are fazing them out because 12 year old little boys want more skulls in their grim dark world I'm ok with that.

I'll just be playing 4th Edition Codex Tau in 9th Edition 40k...

I havent quit playing them yet and I doubt I ever will =]
