Hi Dakkaites.

Ive decided to make an abhuman imperial gaurd army. looking at approxamatkey 2k points. but im going to convert them all (troops wise) from a micmx of Cadian. Catachan. Clan Rats and Ungors.

Does that sound like it could work? and any advices on this woukd be great :-D

Also. like any ambitius moddler im not stopping there.
in the list i would like to use ogryns and sentinels.

My originol idea for Ogryns where beastmen minotaurs... but i ciuldnt work anything out for ser the sentinels with troops riding them...

what do you thinks?

any tanks would be made from monsters with turrets similar to the lizardman engine thing...

If you're fielding an abhuman guard army there is no reason not to use Ogryns as Ogryns, they fall under the abhuman catagory quite nicely and the models arent awful (though you can convert similar models without paying out for the expensive kits).

Beastmen make for Good veterans, typically they come up a little larger than your standard guardsman (though I used Gors, not ungors) and more muscular which helps define them as a more elite unit. Catachan arms will mesh well with the beastmen and cadian with the skaven, otherwise muscle tone is awful.

You could also use Longshanks (giants) as some of your tanks, all that comes to mind atm is a giant wielding the basilisks cannon (shield, barrel and all) as some kind of giant mortar while crouching behind a building.

well i was wanting more of a beastmen feel so thats why i didnt want tobuse igryn... however i love your gian idea. and i was using ungor for the same reason as you said... the mucle tone difference with the gors as vets...

just want it to be fun tbh but i want to make some decent models to match a comoetative list...

Ah, well in that case I have bought some minotoars recently with the intent of fielding them as somethign akin to a heavy weapons team for my beast vets, however I did not realise quite how larger they were, so in that regard you are right that they work beast as a sentinel standin. My own work in THAT regard ended in a broken model and a loss of interest so it is a little complex. I would think maybe a Minotoar with ratlings manning a makeshift turret on its back might be the right route to go on that.

You can run centaurs as rough riders with relative ease, though the metal (finecast?) models make this an expensive choice.

Other than that:

Shaman > Psyker
Warlord > Commisar
