Across the Great Divide

This is a WIP I have going and am planning on doing a squad in the same style so I thought I would ask dakka how I could improve on the painting before I start on the next guys and so that I can do more on this one before finishing. Any and all comments/critiques are welcome as I would like this to be a better painter. Any style or technique hints are appreciated. (note the freehand symbol on the shoulder is not finished in these photos)

Thanks for the help.

A bit of black wash (nuln oil nowadays?) might help define the chain links a bit. And maybe thin you'r paint a little bit more on the whole, several thin patchy layers looks smoother in the long run
I'm no expert by anymeans, but nice work, I like the shading on the cloak.

Actually, I think it looks good as is.

Maybe a bit more wash, or maybe add some dull coate to reduce the shine...but that could just be a picture thing (or maybe they look fine in person).

A shell casing on the (already cool) base might be a nice finishing touch...

Looks good, can't wait to see more!

the cape looks pretty good but the black and white looks thick and sloppy...

i suggest trying to highlight the black with grey (for extreme detail to all the way up to spacewolfs grey) and try to get the white on a light grey undercoat.
do all the whites first because you can fix mistakes with white easily with black but if you mess up with black its really hard to fix with white
