I am a 40K player and mostly post in the discussion forum there but I read all the postings from both for years now.
I love Elf's so I have gotten most of the units I will need, just getting ready to start assembling and painting.

I want to use a unit of Phoenix Guard as a fighting unit as well as a place for my Mage and BSB so I need some advice on how best to do this.
I am not looking for a tournament army but an Army that at the end of the day my opponents can say "That was a great game" win or lose.
Wasted points on small things or do this or that and it's better just good sound advice is what I would like.

At 2400 points I can go up or down a little with out changing to much, so this is my list:

Archmage LvL4 - Silver Wand - Talisman of Saphery - Folariath's Robe - Life - 315 pts goes in PG

Mage LvL1 - Dispel Scroll - HM so I get Shield of Saphery - 120 pts goes in Spearman

Noble BSB - Armour of Caledor - Guardian Phoenix - 168 pts goes with other Spearmen

Archers 12 - SB Magic Banner of Eternal Flame - 152 pts

Spearman 25 - Full Command - 250 pts

Spearman 25 - Full Command - 250 pts

Phoenix Guard 25 - Full Command - Banner of Sorcery - 455 pts

Sword Masters 15 - Full Command The Amulet of Light - Banner of Ellyrion - 285 pts

Sword Masters 15 - Full Command - 255 pts

Eagle - 50 pts

Eagle - 50 pts

Eagle - 50 pts

Any thoughts are most welcome, Thanks

Edited this list per suggestions.

Archmage LvL4 - Silver Wand - Loremasters Cloak - Folariath's Robe - Life - 320 pts goes in PG
Not bad, but the Talisman of Saphery would be a better item than the cloak if you expect the PG to be in combat. That will basically make your archmage immune to all damage besides spells, which won't matter in combat.

Mage LvL1 - Jewel of Dusk - HM so I get Shield of Saphery - 115 pts goes in with the 15 man SM's
High magic is fine, the jewel is meh. A dispel scroll would be a better investment. Also, never put a mage in a hammer unit like SM, he will die too quickly. Hide this mage with the archers.

Noble BSB - Armour of Caledor - Guardian Phoenix - 168 pts goes with PG
Easily the best BSB build for HE if you add a great weapon. I wouldn't personally put both him and the lv4 in the PG unit as it's too many points in a single unit. I'd run him in one of the spearmen units and just keep the PG within range of him.

Archers 12 - Musician - SB Magic Banner of Eternal Flame - 157 pts
Decent enough. The musician isn't really mandatory as they won't need to reform hardly ever. Flaming shots are useful.

Spearman 30 - Full Command - 295 pts

Spearman 25 - Full Command - 250 pts
No complaints here, other than perhaps that you are taking more than the minimum core required. HE core are generally terrible, so you want to minimize how many you take. In my 2500 point lists I have exactly 625 points of core which is the min. That said, these 2 units are fine as is, but if you want/need some points elsewhere you can bump the 30 down to 25.

Phoenix Guard 25 - Full Command Gold Sigil Sword - Banner of Sorcery - 470 pts
Not sure why you want the Sigil Sword. You already hit first even against higher Initiative enemies unless they also have ASF. If you just wanted the magic attacks there are much better swords to take. Everything else about the unit is perfect.

Sword Masters 15 - Full Command The Amulet of Light - Banner of Ellyrion - 285 pts
Decent enough, if you have magic attacks here then the PG champ shouldn't need it.

Sword Masters 14 - Full Command - 240 pts
Good deal.

Eagle - 50 pts

Eagle - 50 pts
Good deal

Those are my thoughts on the list. It's a good starting direction, and pretty much all of my changes to it don't involve changing the models you use so it won't cost you any money which is always a good thing. Overall the list is quite similar to ones I run.

I edited the main list.
Those were great suggestion as changing those thing let me bump my other SMs up to 15 and add another Great Eagle and it still came to 2400 points.
I think the added Eagle will work well, as I really like this list now.

Can't thank you enough for the thoughts and the time to post.

The new list looks great.

As you play more games with it you may decide to swap out some swordmasters for Dragon Princes or White Lions which are both great units. It depends generally on your opponents army.
