I had no idea where to post this so I just stuck it here. Anyway ,this weekend was my birthday so I had some extra spending money on me. Need less to say I broke down and went to my local hobby shop and bought the first box of $50 Terminators I saw . This is my first time fielding them and I wanted to know if anyone wanted to give me some pointers on what to equip them with. Judging by what the other guys play at my group, I'll be fighting mostly Tyranids. I've already taken a heavy flamer, combi-flamer, and a chainfist. Past that I have no idea what they need. Thanks for any help!

Power axes. Some combi-plasmas would also be a good idea.

Depends what you've got points for really. If I recall there's only 1 non strike last pwr weapon in the box so you're either on fists or axes there so it's a little moot there beyond which str bonus to points cost you want.

Combi flamers are quite handy now, say, save them until you get assualted and that's d3 extra hits auto over the maybe from a bolter. In all it doesn't sound like a bad selection thus far, monstrous creature will walk over them though still. What other units are you fielding with them?

There is only one maul in the box, the rest are axes, fists and a chain fist.

Oh really?
That sucks.
Maybe convert the fists into lightning claws somehow?

I'm going to be fielding a lot of Khorne Berserkers, because if I remember they have one extra attack over regular CSM with chain swords. Maybe I'll find a Demon Prince, that should help with monstrous creatures. Since I have such a melee oriented army I also have a unit of 7 or 10 (depends on what i'm fighting) CSM with bolters. That way they can sit back and size down units with more than one wound so the Berserkers can swoop in and take them out in one round of combat.

What do you have that can cancel out 2+ saves? Other than the prince?
Sounds like you need more AP2 weapons. The terminators can fill that niche.

axes. They are cheaper than the fist and in most cases will be just as efficient (extra attack, str6). I like the combi flamer idea mentioned, I'll be trying that myself. It might also be fun to have two terminator champions in the squad for challenge shenanigans.

You can do that?
I thought chaos termies only get one unit upgrade like everyone else.

Not 100% what your question was referring too, I assume the axes part. And thats to do with modelling, and since the CSM Termie box comes with plenty of power axes...
And one unit upgrade? What has one unit upgrade? Nothing that i'm aware of...
Every terminator can be upgraded, 1 HW per 5 models, all can take combi-weapons, be Terminator Champions, one can take a Mark, all can take PFs, CFs, LCs or duel LCs.

Ahh yeah, I can see that now
But yeah, every Terminator can be upgraded to a Champion. 10 points for an extra attack essentially.

Traitor terminators are an exception, you can upgrade the whole unit for +10 points apiece if you wish. Regrettably all you get for that is an extra attack (and, of course, now the opportunity to exploit the challenge mechanics).

Edit: comprehensively ninja'd.

I could be wrong but in 6th those 10 points buy you the extra attack, access to the challenge mechanics and perhaps most importantly precision strikes on 6's.
Potentially quite handy for a unit with some combi/heavy weapons and powerful CC attacks.

With the new Chaos Codex due in a few months, it's hard to say exactly what you should take. Depends on the holes in the rest of your army. But a unit of terminators with combi meltas and power mauls will make short work of any vehicles they get close to.

yes, taking champions is a good idea. Certainly better than buying that second lightning claw(which trades your shooting for +1 attack and is 10 points)

I don't think i'd go all champions as for me part of the advantage of Chaos Termies is the fact they are cheaper but a couple hiding in there couldn't hurt. I tend to run mine with combi-plasma, deep strike them down in rapid range and unload the lot at some powerful unit before wading in and becoming a melee unit.

It's not as useful for me as with that build the target in question tends to evaporate regardless of precision shots but in a less alpha strikey sort of format it could be tasty.

Personally I would get a space wolves termi box and then file off some of the imperial insignia or cover them in green stuff because you just get allot more potions part wise. But then I have trouble saying no to lightning claws.
