So I have been working for a few months on a Dark Mechanicus army, probably to use the CSM rules as a base with allied in IG for some additional variety. I might have also gone with SW/IG and if I do any tornaments I might go that direction seeing how limp the chaos rules are.

I have just about got eveything built and am starting my test batch of marines painting up a unique color scheme. The Whole army is hopefully going to be dirty ivory with a lot of brass/bronze/ and steetl covered in rusk mechanicus robes. (I know the dark mechanicus goes with black robes, but then things are going to look too dull/BT esq)

Recently I built a heldrake. I was never a fan of the helturkey so I built mine out of a stormtalon. I added a baleflamer and a twinlinked heavy flamer in the turret and then added 4 close combat weapons on the sides of the hull. It ended up looking very brutal. Unfortuneatly it isnt very wide, so it wont be able to vector strike very much.

I really hate the vendetta model. It is so big, so expensive, and looks so much like a brick. The dakkajet on the otherhand is sexy.

Fluffwise I am looking to create a warband around the idea of a Dark Explorator with a small fleet and ground forces that goes out in search of forgotten and forbidden knowledge.

Coupled with the Dark Mechanicus tones will be a fervent core of Dark Apostles that preach the glory of knowledge and technology in all its splendor. They travel the galaxy testifying on the limits of the imperial limits on technology and on the mortality of the emperor. The only true god is the machine god, who is separate from the emperor and the only way to worship the machine god is in an unbounded open minded way. This will make them very different from the Iron Warriors.

I am thinking of a bunch of space marines somewhere between the word bearers and the iron hands, perhaps some of the remnants of the iron hands from the drop site massacre that were taken prison and re-educated by word bearers.

Ultimately these will combine with some of the Dark Mechanicus from the Mars Priesthood to run a corrupted forge world near but not completely within the eye of terror. The Dark Explorator will be made up of some of the mechanicus, their battle engines and some of the remaining space marines to venture out into the imperium at large searching for knowledge that the IoM has turned its back on.

The reason I originally started a Chaos army was the old raptors models. Not the really old ones but the ones that went finecast a couple years ago.
I started buying them up on ebay before the CSM dex came out, prefering the metal ones to avoid breakages. I got 23 of them and then anxiously awaited the new codex.

When it came out I was less than thrilled. 2 points less thank a bikers(VotLW)! no special rules, just fear! No way to become troops?! Bikes on the other hand seemed awesome. Now I didnt want to be a power gamer, WAAC guy but I didnt want to get swept off the field with my new creation either. I really didnt want to go out and buy a ton of Chaos bikes, who btw arent really that interesting to pain or convert.

So I decided to make my raptors on bikes bases. This wouldnt be enough however, as they didnt have the appropriate weapons, nor bikes. So I would make them WYSIWYG by adding twinlinked bolters, bolt pistol and ccw. I would also add a bike, except instead of them riding it, they would be flying over it.

The whole unit on the left and a Chaos lord on the right, with burning brand, lightningclaw, and powerfist(hammer)

Interesting take on your bikers. I, personally, have never been a huge fan of csm bikers. It's a shame they're so useful in 6th. Keep up the sweet conversions you've been cranking out.

thanks, I will take some more photos of them and post them in the near future. I will try to get some paint on things, I know no one wants to look at black and white models.

With the new chaos dex coming out I was excited about daemon engines other than the defiler so I bought up a bunch of sisters of battle penetant engines. Once the models and codex hit I ordered a bunch of hades autocannons and was originally going to strap 2 of them onto this bad boy but then I decided to use one as a quadgun. So I added a regular autocannon and an assault cannon to count as 1 hades autocannon. This way I feel I can also use it as a contempitor mortis dread with twin kheres assault cannons if I want to play loyalists.

really needs some paint to bring out the detail. So much work to do this winter holiday.

Always thought peoples walking defiler conversions were really cool and I wanted to mix that idea with the penitant engine. The new maulerfiend that came out allowed me to use a hole host of previously unused conversion parts and here it is, still WIP

basically we have dreadknight legs with killa kan feet and heldrake armor plates for the greaves. The body is all maulterfiend with a SoB penitent engine guy on the front. The arms are ork deff dread.
The old head cavity is right now filled by a peice of a watch, but at one point I might want to put some shooting weapons on him and they might go there.

Great use of the maulerfiend for the torso and shoulders. Whare are you thinking for the head?

That walking defiler 'construct' is particularly striking, looks a very good fit with your Dark Mechanicum theme. I'm also impressed with your take on the bikes, very original and cool looking, keep up the good work, subbed

thanks,
I am not sure about the head. I am thinking about how to get the heavy weapons up there and then I will decide. It will probably just end up being a sensor array type of deal with a bunch of scopes and antenna.

thanks, really hoping to get some of it painted this winter holiday to bring out some of the detail.

The bikes are what really excite me about this army. Something about mechanically enhanced robotic bikejump troops just seems awesome. They will be the autotake of the army that I then have to build everything else around.

My Chaos Spawn. More of a crazy cybernetic robot squad than some sort of mutant daemon thing. Lots of orky bits from ork bikers and killa kans. Some kromech arms and verious other bits. Each one is unique.

I usually run them with MoN without any character. One day I will put a Sorcerer on a bike in there, but for now I just like to use them to tie things up.

Wow thees are realy good constructs. Most of htem are realy cool.

I just don't like idea of havoc launcher on infatry men, and I have mixed feelings about your bikes, they look awesome that is, but I am not sure how it would came out in a game.

I know with the bikers it is hit or miss, some people like and accept them, others do not. They might look better painted up and with some additional steampunk gears added on. Otherwise I am thinking of eventually adding another squad of more traditional bikers and more traditional raptors. Have to force myself to paint more before that happens.

Some of the guys I have half painted up. Obviousy they are only half finished and my painting skill leaves something to be desired.

This was the original template. Gold looks too similar to the armor so I am going with more silver/boltgun metal. The red cod piece is just for red robes.

Some full robots I am mixing in with the rest of the bionic men

Ill get those up by the weekend. In the meantime here are some IG heavy weapon teams. 3 lascannon teams that I will put in with robed cultists for my IG platoon. Each is completely different but they have similar eyes to try to bring them together a bit.

WIP but here we go.
I wanted each of them to look unique, like the were cobbled together from different parts by different people at different times so the first thing I did was change the feet. The sisters penitenet engine foot made the one without army yet look awesome, I was encourged and pulled out some killakan feet, which worked out less well.
Next the powerplants needed to be different. The admech stacks that come stock worked well but I wanted different ones so I used some Ravenwing exhausts that seemed to create the proper angle with the support struts. Then again I looked to Killakans and got the powerplant from one of them. Again it looks a little too bulky.

For heads, I am doing all of my terminator heads as Grey knight pally's as I think they look more sinister than the elephant heads regular terminators and chaos use, so I am going to use them here as well. For one of the guys I am using a robed head from the Deathwing knights.

For weapons, I think I am going to go with plasma, melta, flamer nipples and then for heavy weapons lascannon, plasma cannon and missile launcher. Any thoughts?

Conversions look great. I have been working on doing some conversions for a blood angels counts as admech army. Something similiar to the http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Steel_Confessors#.U5Jl1vldUmM. Now that the space marines have access to Ironhands abilities I may run them as that or wait for the new BA.

I like the spawn and heavy weapons teams alot. Where are all the robot legs from?
