So I am about to put in an order for three of the new Orky bommer kits.

I also have had a dummy plane (cool shape and size but little detail) hanging around that I have been wanting to convert to an orky model as well.. I plan to do lots of rivet/plasticard/bitz work on it but am curious how many bits I will have left from the three bommer kits (since they contain parts to build three different variants) to use on it or should I just buy a fourth bommer to use for this?

Can anyone provide any insight?

Perhaps we would be able to answer that question if you told us what variants you are going to build?

We basically have no idea which bits you will be left over with without knowing that...

Well, not sure yet.

However if the kits have two dorsal turret variants each (for example) I would know I will have three extra, etc That is sort of what I'm trying to get a feel for: what bommer builds will leave what parts?

Not being familiar with the kits I'm not sure myself what exactly they contain.

I am leaning towards some combination of dakkajets and burna bommas: probably two dakka jets and a burna bomma...

OK. Lets see;

Canopies.

Due to the way canopies are assembled you are rarely left with enough bits to be able to make complete extra canopies. A bit of plastic from a blister-pack and some plasti-rod can handle this.

Air-intakes

Each kit comes with 3 different air-intakes (placed directly in front of the canopy). Plenty of spares here.

Exhausts

The kit comes with 2 different exhausts (placed on the side of the front of the fuselage), a short and a long. This gives us three options as leaving the exhaust off altogether is also perfectly viable.

Rocket Booster

The Rocket Booster bit (used to extend the rear main engine) is not a rocket engine in and of itself, but can be used as a start of one on a DIY plane. You will need to construct an end to it yourself.

Guns

You get a total of 4 sets of guns with each kit; 2 internal shoota sets, 1 external shoota set and 1 long-barreled shoota set. Each set consists of two guns. Depending on which variant you build you might have guns left over.
You also get a total of 2 Big Shootas for the gretchin gunners. So you either build the twin-linked round canopy (with nothing left over) or the single-gun elongated version (with a single gun and some ammo-links left over) or the Dakka Jet variant with no Gretchin gunner (and obviously both guns left over).

Bombs and Rokkits

Each kit contains 6 rokkits, 2 Burna-bomms and 2 Big Bomms. Plenty of options for spares.

Wing Accessories

Each kit comes with a set of optional fuel-tanks for the end of the wings (that can easily be used as extra bomms, under-wing fuel tanks and just weirdly placed thingamajigs), and 3 variants for the top of the wings (a set of glyph-plates, a set of gun mounts and a set of air-brakes).
Each kit also comes with a set of bits to bend the wings up or down (the Stuka-look). This bit contains an in-built gun mount (normally for the long-barrelled guns on the Blitza Bommer). This bit can easily be used on a DIY plane, but cannot completely replace the wing-mount itself on the original model as it is an add-on.

You will not have any extra bits left over to build the fuselage itself, the cockpit (aside from the Gretchin Gunner cockpit-parts), the wings or the tail-section.

Hope it helps.

The only things Steelmage missed are the:

2 different wingflaps, a large set that curves near the fuselage, and a straight set that does not change the wing shape,

an optional extension for the tail

Thank you (snarkiness aside).

Steelmage & Big Mek Dattrukk thankfully got the gist of what I was asking and made it very clear the amounts of pieces I could potentially have left over.

sprue pics are interesting but without having built any of the bommas (nor having seen any in person) the pics are not really that helpful because one wouldnt know what on them you will or wont use for any particular build simply by looking at them if you havent ever built the kits.

I have the info I need now (and I know about google to boot). Great day.

If you build Burna Bommers from the kits, you can use the extra parts to build some Dakka Jets. You just need to buy a cheapo WWII F4U Corsair model:

Thank you for that information... Im really inclined to buy a kit now (to make a burna bommer) and use the spare bitz for a dakka jet or 2... (chinese toys, here i go!!!)
