As you know there are some really killer heavy necron lists out there, it will be no surprise that in a few months a ton of armies will get Flakk and flyers will get less dominate, so I am wondering what will happen then, how will necron tactics or army lists change, would it be the same or would you take less flyers, maybe only one or two? So while this is a hypothetical question, I believe that gw will be giving a bunch of armies Flakk missile, will that make the Necron Heavy Flyers list less dominant?
~Thoughts ?

Its too early to say. All of these questions are looking way too far ahead. We'll probably have to wait 2 to 3 new codices before a factual answer can be given to your question.

Fair enough, yeah I just didnt want to dump tons of money into necron flyers and then a few months later have them just be shot to shreds every game

It's a valid concern, one I'm sure many people share with you.
To play it safe, maybe just two would suffice for now?

Yeah right now the list I am coming up with will be more wraith based because those still will be potent regardless of flakk missiles

I have a feeling that Flyers are the "thing" for 6th edition. I doubt that they'll be nerfed to the point of making them useless.
Basically the way I look at it, we are able to SPAM what is the new gimmick for 6th edition. This is probably a good thing, and while others will catch up, I doubt Flyers will be nerfed too badly.
However, having said that I find myself with a ton of scarab bases and a bunch of spyders wondering if i may have jumped the gun too early on that. lol
I agree with skoffs, probably best to get two or three. I have a two on order, but planning on picking up a third soon. I plan on using them for primary AA stuff, as my IG buddy has three vendettas, and my ork buddy just got his first DakkaJet.

I would not for just that reason. Buying 9 flyers sounds great, but if in 3 months every ML has flak, then your investment is not that hot. That's a lot of money.

Well, as long as they don't have intercept as well, it's not that big of an issue.
Missile launchers could hit Scythes just fine in 5th, Scythe spam was still doing well. Now, worse case scenario, some of your enemies weapons will have skyfire. Ok, jump on the board, shoot them, Jink the return fire, rinse and repeat.

I've found both units to be quite strong still in 6th, Spyders even more so as they now have one of the better Psychic defenses in the game and are can repair hull points.

Hmm, quick realization/question:
Spyders can repair Night/Doom Scythes, right?
(fluff wise, I don't see how that would be possible, but rules wise, I can't see a problem)

Spyder's can move VERY FAST when needed .
But RAW, it would appear so. Depends on how your read the "Flyers base" rules in the BRB.

This.
Scythe Spam is a strong list in either edition. Unless we get a ton of weapons on the field that can skyfire AND intercept, nothing is going to change that.

Everyone does realize that a flakk missile is a Heavy 1 autocannon with skyfire right. So aren't all cron vehicles equipped with Quantum Shields which make you AV 13? 13-7=6. They can only glance you to death.

No, flyers don't come with QS. They are only AV11.
No the flakk missiles need a 4 to glance and a 5+ to pen.

I stand corrected. Flakk Missiles will do alot more damage then i previously thought to Crons. Guess only Vendettas and SR will need a better solution.

I would also reconsider doing a flyer spam army in a meta where the IG is one of the most popular and powerful codexes.
Hydra tanks WILL wreck your day, they basically ruin flyers for fun, and for 75pts a pop, you're pretty much guaranteed to see most IG lists with 2-3 Hydras atleast.
Hell, I've been seeing people include them as allies, simply to counter the emerging flyer spam madness. You cant really compete with it for point efficiency. Or with Vendettas, for that matter, which are also becoming increasingly common allies.
Personally I would suggest a small amount of flyers for now, just so you dont completely gimp your list against anyone who has actually prepared for it.

You don't need to compete with it point efficiency wise when you shoot it first. And Scythes are cheaper then Vendettas last I checked...

Well, you will always get the Alphastrike with the flyers, so if you have a large amount of points invested in them, I would make anything Anti-flyer, my first target. There isn't a lot that can stand up to a doomscythe zooming in second turn, unleashing ti's destructor and deathray.

As a Necron Player who refuses to buy a bunch of NightScythes or DoomScythes, I think I'll just take 3 Annihilation Barges every game. 90pts for AV 13 with a 5+ save and a bunch of Tesla... Mmmm tasty. And good against almost everything else too.

Necrons are rock solid without flyers, they are just the gravy. I own two scythes (can be played either way easy magnet job). I won't be buying more regardless, one trick pony lists rarely win big tournaments and just get you labeled as WAAC and TFG.

So what's the big deal with whether or not people get skyfire? My buddy plays necron and my MLs(or more recently my broadsides) are always set to take out his vehicles as soon as possible. But that Damn deathray always tries to wreck my day. Only a handful of things are going to have skyfire. Kill then first of your worried about it. IMO if scythes worked for you in 5th then 6th shouldn't make a difference because they are that much harder to kill. That being said they will ALWAYS be higher on the target priority because they are such a pain
