Hi, does anyone play Vortex from Unified Theory Games? I think it is awesome as it allows one to create characters from the ground up and only needs a few minis to play. It is multi genre and the background is such you can use any kind of minis against each other from high tech aliens vs wild west cowboys, or ancient Romans riding dinosaurs vs time travelling robots. If you can imagine it and have the minis you can play it and it comes with a complete campaign system.

Yeah, just picked this one up recently. It's a heck of alot of fun building your dudes and the fact that it balances so well. Want cavemen versus cyborgs? No problem! Aliens brawling with a beholder lead gang of slimes? Sure!

The mechanics are pretty simple but allow alot of strategic options (the ability to gauge and flank opponents as well as forcing repositions is really cool).

I highly recommend this game for someone looking for a great, flexible skirmish level game. Link to Unified Theory homepage: http://168.144.2.34/utg/default.asp

I play alot of warband size skirmish games. I read through the Basic Rules. Seemed like a good game, but more crunchy than my club was looking for. We opted instead for Song of Blades and Heroes.

Still, everyone looking at various skirmish games should give it a once-over. Here's a link to the downloads page where you can download the basic rules for free to get a feel for the mechanics.
