Ok... so I am in the process of working on my BA again and am contemplating building my own HQ units instead of using GW models. Don't get me wrong I like the GW models but I am all about having my own look to my army. Basically what I am doing is buying the DA veterans squad and then adding my bits from the BA death co. squad and other bits to make Tycho, Mephiston and chars like that. Is it legal to use them for tournaments or do they require you to use the GW designated models? I guess it's one of those I have a great idea for my army and I want a specific look to my HQ models but don't want to get to a tourny and have them say "sorry you can't compete cause you don't have the correct models". Thanks for the advice, also not sure if this is right forum for my question if not please move it to the proper forum.

I don't think it'd be a problem, I have an almost entirely converted army myself. As long as you let your opponent know who is what, then it should be fine.

So, just to clarify, you want to use spare GW bits to convert cahracters? Sure, why not. I did it for Vulkan He'stan, just look at my P&M blog.

The only time it may be a problem is when you model for advantage. For example, giving Mephiston a power axe. While for you it may be rule of cool/ I didn't have a sword, in the new rules he would Be Str 7 (albeit Int 1). Or giving him a Maul for aesthetics ( So he would be Str 8). Some people may object to this.

Oh no I won't change the stats by any means I just think that making my own models is more fun than using the ones that GW puts out. I am trying to give them their Codex wargear just with a very distinct look. I will also be doing the same to my command squad and chaplains( using the Lemartes model for my assault chaplains).

Nobody with any sense is likely to complain, particularly since the official Dante and Mephiston miniatures are both rather drab (and short) compared with the Blood Angel plastics.

As stated by others nobody with a slight amount of sense should object to that as long as you dont change the wargear a lot.

Surely what fun would 40k be without model conversion?

I guess because its all technically GW products you are using it should be okay in an official tournament or something... right?

Just make sure your opponents know who or what the models represent and you should have no trouble. Extra credits if the models are nicely converted and well painted.
