OK so what do you think is better

3 predators rocking side heavy bolter and TL laz cannon it would give me long range anti tank but not so much for anti infantry

Or 3 vindicators giving me really powerful short/mid range, i would be able to roll over tanks and infantry but i would need to be close.

What do you guys think?

BTW do vindicators still use ordnance weapons and get to use the ordnance chat when they get a penetrating hit?

To many unpainted models to count.

Pred with Autocannon and Lascannon sponsons are alot better than your loadout, It's a little bit more, but you get +2 S9 shots, and 2 S7 shots. Perfect for long range anti-tank support.

Not sure how they stand up in 6th with the changes to vehicles, but they rocked in 5th.

well the list i have now I would be taking 3 vindicators so it would be a scary thing to fight against but with how weak vehicles are when fighting melee their short range kinda makes me worried.

I would actually say that 3 Vindicators are at least as good as the Predators, if not better.

Vindicators got way better in this edition. You can't lose your main weapon to a glancing hit, and even a weapon destroyed result from the penetrating table doesn't always take the cannon (50% chance).

The large blast stands a very good chance of hurting vehicles now that the hole doesn't have to be over the hull. In fact, it's actually way more likely to hit the vehicle than a BS 4 lascannon.

On a similar note, if you can get the large blast to cover two vehicles (easy against certain lists), a single shot can destroy multiple vehicles a turn.

Night fighting is in roughly half of the games on turn 1, so the longer range Predators won't be as useful for a turn (the same turn that the Vindicators would be advancing).

The vindicators are much cheaper than the TL Lascannon + Heavy Bolter Preds (345 points vs 390 points) and slightly cheaper than the Autocannon + Lascannon Sponsons (345 points vs 360 points).

The Vindicator has always been more versatile. The TL Lascannon + Heavy Bolter Preds aren't great against vehicles due to their single high strength shot. The Autocannon + Lascannon Preds aren't great against infantry due to only 4 shots. The Vindicator can be fantastic against vehicles and usually decimates any infantry it hits (including models with 2+ armor or FnP or multiple wounds).

It would also be worth getting something to screen the vindis as they move up. Seeing as you get cover for vehicles if only 25% is covered (down from 50% - iirc).

Damn you make a lot of good points, never thought of i that way but does the vind still use the odanence table if they hit? Also vinds with a dozer blade cost the same as a pred with an auto cannon and side las cannons 120 each

Not sure what you mean by Ordinance table. If they hit, the demolisher cannon rolls 2 D6 and picks the highest for armor penetration. So it's more than a 50% chance to penetrate AV 14. They use the same vehicle damage table.

I need to ask, does ordinance do the same to buildings as to vehicles? It seems to me they are one of the best tanks to destroy buildings and things.

I need to give you a fair warning. while literally pounding troops to dust is fun, there are plenty of guys who take things like 3 squads of longfangs or legions of obliterators that can knock those tanks to about one hull point on the first turn. it gets rather frustrating, but these things will be the biggest targets on the tabletop.

I actually prepared for that, i know they will be prime targets but ill be slowing them down as much as i can. I have a scout squad with telion so I most likely will be able to pin one of their squads.

I also am taking a God hammer LR with a chaplain inside as well to get some melee in there

and 2 stormtalon gun ships

while im here the rest of my army is 2 tac squads w/ rhino and a dreadnought with assault cannon and ML

Played Vindies in my BA list and they absolutely destroyed things. I took them for fun though, not sure if I'd have them in a competitive list.

It definitely blew things up though.

I have always leaned towards vindicators because they just feel scarier on the battlefield. When I see a pred I don't automatically say, "Yeah I have to kill that." But when I see a vindi I know it will destroy something if I don't devote some anti tank to it.

I used to use vindicators, then I realized that, since, 5/6 games are Objectives, that using more troop choices this edition is probably best.

Vindicators (for 3) are 360pts for them w/ Dozers. While they will destroy anything they get close to on the ground, anything in the Air will be completely immune to anything a Vindicator can do.

Combined with a Librarian riding with them using Null Zone, and Rhinos to screen them (especially now that flat out is in the movement phase...) you can destroy any Terminator heavy army.

Hmm. Maybe 2 of them with devastators if I drop a Tactical squad and some small amount of points elsewhere... hmm..

Well, I'd take both since they can compliment each other. A Predator is long ranged and this can be important in the new edition due to the new deployments.

On the other hand, a Vindicator can be very effective vs. units approaching your front ranks or to soften up the enemy fronts before the charge.

I would go with the Vindicators
If they get within 24 inches you just start droping Large templates if not the people i normaly play with try to stay away and normaly vacate objectives rather than get hit with thoes things

Do you ever go into a fight thinking "there's no point giving it my best, I'll get another chance later?"

But with the new deployments, the enemy can deploy 40'' or more from the enemy.

Sorry for the extra 1
you can walk them in on you use them to deter the enemy from going to an objective or spred them out to limit the number of deployment options. Basicly using them as area denial

Area denial and long-range fire support contribute to the synergy of an army. So its not either or, but both.
