How does GW get the amount of detail their crystal swords, what are their techniques because i have tried to do it many, many times before and have never achieved these results?!!?!?

I know this isn't too much help but there was a white darf article a while back on how the eavy metal team does those swords. if you can track it down it should be pretty helpfull

also, remember the basics, thin your paint, use a small brush etc.

Even if you don't use the airbrush, the techniques and style that the video shows will help you form the effect you desire. Effectively it'll just take longer, and you'll have to really be good with your blending and glazing.

They're both techniques for giving a gradual colour transition instead of a sharp one. In blending the two colours are mixed together. A glaze is more or less very thin paint (like a wash) which helps to blend colours together.
