Hey all, I had a question for those who may have seen more of the books than I. I have already built both a Falscrm army and a hotchkiss tank list(which is more fun than one would think.) and played both rather extensively and my mate uses Tigers and King tigers. One model that I love outside of tanks is the .88 guns. I have two and they are one of the first models that I felt really good about the paint job. Sadly I just never get a chance to use em. That got me thinking, why not make a list of them? I've seen at least one book that allows three groups but I'm sure there are others. Anyone see a book that allows an obscene number of .88s? So far 6 is the most the one book allows, sadly I cannot for the life of me remember which one it is, although we do already own it.

Also, who has the best .88 with the carriage? I didn't like the way the BF ones were for my two .88s and so assembled them on the scenic bases(which are neat anyway.)

Thanks guys.

HermanGoering forces from Dogs&Devils can take up to 6 8.8s

The Walkure PDF allows 4.

Just a warning - the 88 is semi-easy to neutralize with smoke ammunition and smoke bombardments.

Harder than it was in v2, but still a +1 to hit and a 16" maximum range isn't exactly the best investment in points.

They're worth getting with Luftwaffe crew.

Well, two aren't that hard to neutralize with smoke, but six would be a bit more difficult, depending on how you deployed them and how much smoke-capable units your opponent brought.

That's true, but when they're immobile and most of my tanks (at least) can toss out smoke, combined with artillery, and I can generally lay enough.

I suppose Soviets would have a tougher time, but at that point you're usually facing enough tanks/infantry that even 6 guns may not be enough.

Then again, I say go for it! It's the same kind of list as the Beutepanzer company, if you're playing for gaks and giggles.

This. They are fairly good guns, although far from amazing in late war, but they are rather easy to kill/neutralise. With Luftwaffe crews they become very cheap and can still dish out some long range AT without noticably reducing your available points.

I hadn't had a problem with .88s in the past being overly vunerable, especially if you throw enough threats at the enemy. But yeah, it's more of a fun list anyway. Something about those guns make me smile.

What's this about a luftwaffe crews? How many of those are fieldable?

Most lists in Grey Wolf have access to Luftwaffe Heavy Anti-aircraft which are a pair of 88s with Reluctant Trained Luftwaffe crew.

Luftwaffe 88's IIRC can fire bombardments. Or at least one type can

I never have found a tactical use for that due to the low gun count and relatively low crew skill. Even if you range in on the first attempt you only have a 25% chance of scoring a successful hit on a team.

Actually, I find with bombardments and aircraft I don't have a whole lot of luck. They just never do anything real spectacular, ever. I don't think it's me either because one of the guys at our escalation league continually tried to use that stuff and it just isn't as good as straight up abuse.

That being said, it appears it is in fact the Herman book i have access to. I guess I'll give that a try. Anyone used those lists before? I certainly have not. I pretty sure most of my lists have come from the main book or viller's, with the exception of my hotchkiss list.

Artillery is overcosted as their price takes into account their direct fire capabilities, use something cheap like Nebs or heavy mortars and you should get some good use out of them.
