So, I finally finished reading the entirety of the 6th edition rulebook (well, I skimmed some at the back), and among the many things that are different and interesting in fluff and rules, there was something that struck me as against the grain.

Tucked in between the new, beautiful multi-page art spreads and fantastically painted new models, there was an amount of shockingly old stuff. There was artwork in the new rulebook that I swear has been around since at least the 3rd edition rulebook (especially some of the older space marine stuff, including at least a couple of pictures with marines carrying rogue-trader-style boltguns). The other thing that really shocked me was that the picture that shows off the emperor's children and world eaters in the chaos section were done with ancient pewter minis from two decades ago. You might have missed it with the great new paint job that they've gotten, but some of the minis that are showcased are really, really old.

I don't know if this means anything, but I thought it interesting that games workshop went out of its way to show old miniatures and old artwork. I would have thought that they would have only included the best, newest, sparkliest stuff.

I think it's a nice touch.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?"

Yeah, given 6th's leanings back towards 2nd edition rules-wise, it's not surprising (but a nice touch, IMO) to see so much of the older inspiration taking pride of place int he book.

For me, 6th is both a shiny new hotness, and a wonderful big bundle of nostalgia.

I agree. I like the dash of nostalgia thrown in. If you are new, you probably hardly noticed. If you have been around a while, it's a nice little reminder of 40ks roots.

No problems here IMO all of the illustrations and photographs were great to look at.

I like the recognition of 40k's legacy that old stuff shows. I've always been a huge fan of the old stuff though so I'm happy to see it!
