I've always said that if implemented correctly, a Shadowrun MMORPG could be the most awesome game ever created. The setting pretty much incorporates almost everything that was ever cool in any sort of fiction. That said, a 3rd person top-down was not part of that formula imo. I will be watching to see where they take it though.

It's not exactly top down. Okay, isometric doesn't really fit either, but it'd be more fitting. Perhaps you could best compare it to ... uhh ... FallOut 1 or 2?
I guess the turn-based part is "hurting" the traditional MMORPG aspect somewhat more than the perspective, but from all I've seen (do watch the videos and read what they have in mind!) this could be quite fun.

It's close enough, similar to Baldur's Gate. If this was being done by a major developer in an action-based FPSRPG style, you'd have a winner in my book. I think the format they are going for can still work for them, but it seems contrary to the frantic style of Shadowrun combat. There is so much they could have done with simulating the different eye implants/replacements and the HUD that you have in a typical FPS game fits perfectly with the various headware and AR glasses you have in SR. It also loses out on the vehicle combat (some of my favorite moments from SR are running gun battles moving to classic car chases). Just too much lost from the action and immersion of Shadowrun.
It's understandable though. There just isn't the budget to create that kind of game and do it well.

Kinda like Deus Ex HR meets Neocron ... I hear ya.
Still, I liked X-Com and Jagged Alliance, I think I'll enjoy this one too. The setting has potential for more, but "it's the next best thing" - and the way you can set up missions with your friends sounds fun.

Yeah, not saying it'll be bad, and actually I think it looks to be quite fun. It just burns me up every time I see a Shadowrun game, it always feels like they went half-ass with it, and it never has the frantic action that the p&p game creates.

I have begun to fear for their success, really sad since this is a much better concept than Shadowrun Returns. Oh well, fortune favors the bold and they came out second.
There is still time and the last week is usually the most profitable. that said they are only half way there and people are probably getting a little bored with kickstarters by now.

The prefect example of someone missing the point.
Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

Have to say they would've probably had more success if they offered more perks for lower level contributors, too.
I don't mind my contribution, but I feel I got a lot more bang for my buck in MWO.
Psychology 101: If you don't just collect donations but instead link them to rewards, don't make people feel as if they'd miss out on the good stuff when donating less than a several hundred bucks.
Sad thing, really, the game looks quite awesome already. I just hope they don't actually need this money to finish their product.

I remember this game from back in my SEGA days. The Jumphouse barrens.... LOL and that music, LMAO!!!
Is the game going to be all over the world, like the P and P?
Are they talking about putting Chicago in there? I would be all over that in a heartbeat.
THAT was one of my first P and P campaigns. had to go in and rescue something that tured out to be a bug thing. It was really cool.
For the SEGA game, I remember the end fight being... less then stellar, and quite underwhelming.
That screen shot of the gameplay reminds me of that.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
I don't know if this is going to make it. It is $78k away with 22 hours to go but it has made $10k in the last 2 hours.

I am actually getting somewhat optimistic. It's really ramped up the last day or two. I convinced pretty much everyone who is a gamer at work to at least check it out.

Why is that?
Risen 2 is terrible. And because it is worse than the first Risen in terms of mechanics as well as glitches, it's hard to believe that Risen 2 is terrible because the develpers are good but simply lacked money. To me, Risen 2 shows that the developers are not very good and don't have enough money. So even if you gave them enough money, it wouldn't necessarily make for a good game -- unless they fired themselves and donated the money to better developers, that is.
