So, I have just started a project to get my army ready for 6th. This is the first of a series of project posts to help keep me motivated and on track.

With the new Starter Set for 6e on the horizon I recently decided to get my army finally painted, and I chose to do my loyalist Marines as Dark Angels. The first part of this project is to complete the Command Squad for the army. Right now I have just started building and will hopefully get primed this weekend and start painting next week.

Here is the Captain Tenniel, his command squad and transport

Close ups of Captain Tenniel

Veterans with Meltaguns

Apothecary

Veteran with Powersword and Stormshield

Standard Bearer

Razorback with Twin-Linked Assault Cannons

I still need to drill out barrels and such and tidy up some things, but for the most part, they are ready for priming.

Thinking of Barrels, what size bit should I use to drill them out? Bolters? Bolt Pistols? Meltaguns? Plasma Pistols? Assault Cannons?

Thank you for looking. C&C appreciated.

I've also assembled a Chaplain

Right now it is just the standard powermaul. Should I chop the end off and add something more Crozius?

Sweet, this project has my interest.
Cant wait to see when you start painting them. Have you thought about what colours you're going to use for your Dark Angels?

Chaplain is neat, but for me, unless they got the skull helm, it's hard to think of it as a Chaplain as it is. The paintjob will go a long way to helping with that though. As for the powermaul, it's crozius'ey enough, but if you feel it doesnt look like a crozius, could always chop off the top and replace it with one of the banner-tops found in some of the SM box sets.

PS: I've seen it used for other DA conversions, but where/how do you get the winged helm for your Tenniel?

The power maul sadly sucks for gameplay. I'd give him a power axe personally.

Agree with the above poster as well, the skull helm really says "I'm a Chaplain".

Lets see some paint on these bad boys! Whats your basic paint plan?

Regarding your question about bit size, are you using a Pin Vise or rotary tool to do this? If you don't have them already, you'll probably need to order some specialty bits designed for modelling, since you'll need something much smaller than you can find at your local hardware store.

I will magnetize (now doing LED as well) your models for you, send me a DM!

Captain Tenniel! I see what you did there. Nice looking conversions too. I really want to see them with some paint. I am especially curious to see your Chaplain as i have considered doing something similar

"The uniforms of the Imperial guard are camouflaged in order to protect their wearers by hiding them from sight. the principle is that what the enemy cannot see, he cannot kill. This is not the way of the Adeptus Astartes. A Space Marine's armour is bright with heraldry that proclaims his devotion to his Chapter and the beloved Emperor of Mankind. Our principle is that what the enemy can see, he will soon learn to fear." -The codex Astartes

Thanks for following! It's going to be a bit longer before I can get back to this... I am going to be spending the weekend with my father at the hospital. I probably wont get to start laying down color till next weekend... As soon as I do, I'll post more pictures!

I've already got the paint for this project. I am going to be using the Army Painter Angel Green Primer and I'll touch that up with the matching Angel Green Warpaints that just came out. I'll give the model a drybrush highlight of Greenskin (also Warpaints) followed by a Thraka Green wash. That should bring it together nicely. Robes will be done with the excellent P3 cream/off-white color they have.

I'm limited to the bits I currently have so finding a skull helmet is a bit tricky ATM. I have an old chaos skullhead (think it came from the chaos vehicle sprue?) somewhere, I just need to find it. It doesnt really fit the robed and hooded look I was going for. I do like the simplicity of the Powermaul as his Crozius. It also means I wont have to cut it up...

Captain Tenniel's Helmet is just one of the unhooded helms that come on the DA Upgrade sprue. The wings are a seperate bits that are also on that sprue. You just glue them to whatever you want. Very cool that I could make my own captain!

heehee! I was hoping someone would catch that! I've been wanting to make that joke for YEARS! lol It is a bit more subtle with the angel-esque renaming, but I like it and it fits really well with the Dark Angels.

I hope to get color down next week/weekend

Well, the Powermaul is on my Chaplain so he is unable to take a Poweraxe. Crozius count as Powermauls now with 6th, so it kind of fits better as just a powermaul.

Yup, I own an extensive modeling toolkit and paints collection so I have both a Dremel (pistol grip FTW!), and a pin vice. I just need to know what sizes best fit which weapon. I dont really want to go experimenting if I dont have too...
