If I'm not mistaken, the Black Templar codex dates from 2005.

Is that the oldest "current" codex?

Is there any news/prospect of a new one for BT any time in the nearish future?

Is there a possibility that they'll be dropped as a separate codex and just folded into the basic Space Marine one?

Thanks.

I heard they were being combined with the Black Legion and Black Guardians to make Codex Black.

Anyway, no rumors on them, it's unlikely they'll be folded into the Marine book but unlikely they'll get an update in the next year or two.

DA, Chaos, Tau and Eldar seem the next few.

And maybe sisters. Or not.

And frankly the world does not need any more marine books. I'd love to see DA and BA folded in as well.

Fair enough, I haven't seen it in 6th yet so it could be atrocious for all I know

I don't think they will be folded in though, don't they have their own spot on the allies chart.

I was somewhat surprised by the lack of a BT Presence in the new rule book. You got more information and model pictures form the Sisters of Battle.

I think a major BT rework was going on parallel to the rulebook development and they didn't know what would and wouldn't change.

What about my Codex: Catachans from 2001?
It's what I started with...and I miss it greatly.

Black Templar are pretty old. I have tried out a small unit of crusaders in a LRC with a chaplain to ally with my Deathwing and they did pretty well I guess. I wouldn't say they are a superpower army but they are definitely still playable from what it seems. Some of their Oath things are pretty useful now with more psyker (proabably) and the increase of attacks due to rage etc.

Were still kicking ass, despite being insulted by GW in the new rulebook. Probably see a resurgence when we finally get updated by the guys whos paychecks depend on us.

As a more horde oriented SM army, you would think that GW would want to support the Black Templars as much as possible, as they make more money on BT players (chapter upgrades + lots of Land Raiders, + Lots of Marines AND Scouts)

Of course, nothing GW does really makes that much sense to me, so whatever.

Yeah, my money is on a major revamp of the templars as well; or at least a fresh 6th edition codex in the near future anyway. They need to be a little more than just 'Knights. in SPACE!' as that design space is filled amply by every other marine codex too.
